I had been meaning to have a Sunday roast here for quite sometime, having heard good things and read the reviews!! I have to be brutally honest and say it was the worst roast I have ever had! Every element was shocking, my only regret is that I didn't complain. The staff were so lovely (no complaints there) that I didn't have the heart to say how bad it was! I struggled to even eat any of it! It was completely tasteless, no seasoning apparently they said you have to season it yourself. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire's looked and tasted like Aunt Bessie's! There were 2 breaded balls, with a filling that tasted disgusting (it was some sort of cheesy stodgy mess) they were also luke warm inside, there was lots of beef but it was thin poor quality! half a carrot, some cabbage and tasteless gravy. I hate giving bad reviews but I didn't want anyone else to waste there time trying it! I have to say the best thing on the plate was the English mustard, which I smothered the roast with to get me through it!
The most delicious Sunday Lunch. Exceptionally knowledgeable friendly staff. Everything was thought of and such fantastic value for money. we’ll be back!!!
Have just returned from a trip to The Lion for their recommended Sunday lunches. We decided to book for my husband's special birthday, as we have heard plenty of people advising us to go. They were booked up I think we were the last booking and you could see why. The staff were amazingly helpful and polite. We started with a round of drinks and then checked the menu. My husband and I went for the beef, my eldest picked the vegetarian pie and my youngest chose nut roast. The food was brilliant and there was so much of it, so make sure you wear elasticated waists! Everyone was happy...and full. It was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. We had heard rumours of a legendary rice pudding, which involved, cream, dulce de leche and biscoff sauce...and it didn't disappoint! Every mouthful was a joy even after a huge roast! The meal was finished with a sunbathe in the courtyard garden, which was small but beautiful. We will certainly be going back it's the best roast dinner I have had in years!
Small local pub serving roasts on Sundays. 3 of us pitched up on a bank holiday Sunday at 4.30pm asking if the kitchen was still open. They said the next sitting started at 5pm and we were in luck as there had been a cancellation. We sat in the teeny tiny garden while we waited until 5pm then went in for a traditional roast (which is all that is available on Sundays). We were ravenous and were very satisfied with quality and quantity. Service was kind and efficient but do book ahead to avoid disappointment. I don't think this was a drinking pub as all the tables were used for dining.
