O Balcao - Brive-la-Gaillarde

O Balcao is centrally located in the old part of Brive La Gaillarde, just along from the huge old Saint-Martin collegiate church that dominates the area. It is relatively easy to find and is next door to the Brive Rugby Club store but parking in that area is tricky and so it is best to locate a car park and approach on foot.I went here for a business meeting one evening where we had sole use of the premises and it had been arranged that we would sample the tasting menu. It is not overly big inside and has a pleasant clean and functional décor. We were all given a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and then on moving to the rear of the establishment saw a colourful and inviting display of assorted seafood – Tuna, Sardines, Crevettes; Meat Beignets, Pork; Sheep and Goat’s Cheese and some Pasta BelémNow the thing about a tasting menu is that unless you are seated at a table and it is served to you one isn’t always sure what one are eating as the individual plates of food aren’t labeled. You just tend to start off with what is pleasing on the eye before sampling some of the less attractive dishes and thereafter go by taste. Unfortunately because of the setting/nature of the evening I couldn’t comment on the service or value for money aspect of the establishment (so will rate them as average) but I have to say it was my first experience of Portuguese food and certainly one I would like to repeat, and so plan to go back, but not on business this time.

Tout y est : l'accueil, le goût, la variété, l'originalité pour un prix plus que raisonnable. Nous avons goûté les tapas en buvant un excellent vino verde, du coup nous avons acheté quelques boîtes de ces excellents produits portugais. Cette boutique offre une multitude de possibilités de jolis cadeaux pour les papilles. Nous reviendrons en After Work !!!!

Très bons produits, préparation sur place, accord mets/vin, conseils et explications du chef, belle déco, nous conseillons vivement cette adresse à Brive !!
