River Japanese Cuisine Oakland Gardens

Me and my family and friends used to frequent this location a lot back in the day (8-10+ years ago). Back then, all the regulars knew that River Sushi was the sh!t. The AYCE buffet was awesome, and on the weekends, it was always packed. Nowadays, the place is almost always pretty empty even on the weekends. The food quality has taken such a nosedive that I don't even know why I still go. Maybe it's close to my residence? The AYCE buffet is so not worth it anymore. They also jacked the price up to $40, and the service is slow and inattentive. Just found out today that 18% gratuity is automatically applied to your bill but yet they still leave a tip option on the bottom of the check. Most people probably tipped twice without realizing it. So River Sushj, get your sh!t together!

My experience was horrible. The quality of the food is not as before, the sashimi are not fresh, tasted bitter. I doubt it if it’s fresh. Even the fruits are not fresh. The orange looks dried. If they have not fresh fruit, how can I expect them to have good sushi and sashimi?Second, the service is awful. We had All You Can Eat. The waitresses are super busy, we waited our food for million years, no one sees us. And the most important thing is they charged 18% mandatory tips with this service. I am really mad. I don’t mind to give 18% tips, but not for service like this. We were ignored during the entire dinner.

Sushi is great, prices not bad. Clean and rarely ever a wait time for seating.
