The first time we thought maybe they were just newly opened and needed some time to improve, so we decided to give them another chance, especially since it is our local pub serving traditional pub fare. However, even though the steaks were ridiculously expensive at £25, the second visit was even worse. We ordered a sharing platter of appetizers, but they came without the accompaniments we requested, such as goat cheese and dressing for the cheeks. We then ordered three scallop entrees, but all the scallops were overcooked. Overall, the experience was disappointing and we will not be returning.
Ate here on occasion a year apart, both times very disappointing. We put the first time down to it just being reopened and thought we would give it another chance as it is our local pub serving traditional pub grub (although the steaks are ridiculously priced, but the second outing was actually worse! Share platters brought with the starters after we asked for them beforehand, goats cheese and pea salad with no goats cheese and no dressing, like someone had grabbed a handful of rocket and popped it on a plate and charge you for it, needless to say we sent it back. We ordered scallop entrees and all the scallops were over cooked. Then we moved on to the mains, we asked for both steaks to be medium rare, both came out well done (how a so called chef can do that to a fillet steak I don't know) sent one of them back only for it to come back blue, actually fridge cold in the middle! It still tasted better then the rubber we got to begin with but left the icicle in the middle. The waitress was very accommodating and tried her best to rectify problems, she didn't charge for the share platters, nor the salad but then we did find a lot of random drinks added to the bill that we didn't order. Very disappointing, will not be giving it a third chance
During our stay in Dereham, we visited all three pubs in the town. The Bull stood out as the best option, with delicious food, quality pints, and excellent service. The meals were served promptly and were delicious, hot, and flavorful. We will definitely return to The Bull when we are in the area again.
Delicious lunch! We had a great selection from the menu and everything was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. I ordered the chilli burger and the mixed grill. The cuts of meat were beautiful and cooked perfectly, although the sausage was a bit overdone for my liking. For dessert, we had the chocolate brownie with ice cream and apple pie with custard. Definitely worth a visit!
Visited here with my children during the half term break. For a week day lunch time the pub was very busy which obviously is a good sign. There was one table left which we had. We were served very quickly for our drinks order and...then food. The food came in a reasonable time frame and looked very very good. We all had a lovely meal and will be looking forward to returning soon. Thank you very much.
