When we inquired with the waitress, she merely directed us to the drink menu for an explanation and quickly left before we could ask any follow-up questions. Just for your information, this fee is a tax that they apply to every bill, no matter what you order, to compensate for the underpriced meat on the menu. I have no intention of returning—this meal was an absolute joke.
I ordered the garlic pan bread, but it was bland and had a rubbery texture. For my main course, I chose the top sirloin steak cooked medium, but it was tough and dry. I had to flag down the server again to ask for some ketchup or steak sauce. At that moment, she kindly offered to get us refills from the bar. The bill arrived promptly at our table. However, when I reviewed it later, I noticed an unexpected "honest to goodness" fee. There were no signs around to inform us about this charge, which felt quite sneaky.
This is a charming little restaurant. The steak was delicious and cooked just right. Unfortunately, the corn that accompanied it didn’t appear to be very fresh. Overall, I think it's the best dining option along the highway in the area. The atmosphere is inviting, and the menu has a nice range of choices.
When our food finally arrived, my family and I promptly requested the bill, as we had a toddler with us who was now an hour past bedtime. Our request seemed to frustrate our server, but I fail to see why it was unreasonable to ask for the bill after such a long wait and after hastily eating to finally leave. It was clear that once we were seated, our experience was not a priority for them. While I understand that busy times can occur, a simple acknowledgment from any staff member about our two-hour wait would have gone a long way in easing our frustration. It would have been nice if the staff didn’t appear so annoyed by our request. Although the food was decent, the poor service has led me to decide against returning or recommending this restaurant to others.
Overall, I was quite disappointed with my experience. The service was below expectations, my meal was not made as I had requested, and there was confusion about the beer promotion. This only got resolved when a waitress, who hadn’t even taken our drink order, intervened to cover the cost—possibly even taking it from her own tips. That felt really unfair to her since she wasn’t responsible for the error. There should have been clearer communication regarding the discount when we inquired about it while ordering drinks. I can only hope this was just an unfortunate incident on a particularly bad day.
