Somehow it seems like most Trini rotis in New York are made by men named Ali? Or are they all somehow related? My guess is no, as while very tasty, Bronx's rendition is just not on the same level as Crown Heights and Bedstuy Alis . The food is good, don't get me wrong. Solid Trini bakery. They were out of fish on my visit, so no bakes for me, but the thing that blew me away was the homemade pepper sauce below in last picture) that will completely envelope you. It goes well with everything. The doubles $1.50 each, above) could have benefitted from a tamarind sauce on the side, but the pepper sauce livened them up enough. The shortbread was on par with the best of them, but the curry sauce was unfortunately weak. The doughy goodness of the aloo pie $1.50, below) was best with the sauce though, which is perfect for the potato interior. 4220 White Plains Road, Bronx NY View Larger Map
This place serves the best saltfish I have ever dined on in New York City's five boroughs.. Their homemade sorrel is delicious also,, you can taste a hint of nutmeg in it. Their roti is very sizeable and large, it also comes in all kind of vegan varieties if you're into the non-meat selections. Ali serves tamarind sauce also serves up a tasty plate of king fish with steamed vegetables. I enjoy dining at Ali's, it's a warm friendly West Indian Spot with top-of-the-line West Indian Cuisine.. I just moved in The Bronx from Brooklyn,, thank goodness I happen to come across them along my business travels shopping in the community, Overall This place shows the costumers love and aren't too strict on costumers being not fully prepared with orders they made in advance, Ali's would work out the problem with you!! I give them 2 thumbs-up for their friendly service, delicious cuisine, loving staff, and their open-minded trouble shooting to solve bad orders made by the costumers!!
Hole in the wall restaurant with limited seating but an absolute gem when it comes to authentic Caribbean food. We’ve tried the boneless chicken roti and it was superb! These are family recipes and you can taste it. Great place, definitely recommend it!
The lady taking orders was rude but I honestly expected that. It was a Tuesday and i was informed that that they only make roti on the weekends now. So i ordered doubles and pholourie. I got a substantial amount and it came up to $9 which isnt bad. It was Delicious! Not sure if they are affiliated with the Ali Roti Shop in Brooklyn but i tried the roti there and it was amazing!
