The Kosher Wok - Brookline

The staff was polite, but I couldn't finish my meal. General Tzao Tofu: Tofu was cut too big. Break. Understood. Sauce wasn't thick enough. Something about the texture and taste made me feel weird and I had to throw it out. Chicken fried rice: tasted like there was no sauce, literally only rice and chicken fried together. Not even the small pieces of carrots, onions and peas I expect in a simple friend rice. Bland and boring, I couldn't get to finish it. Egg drop soup: not enough egg first, the soup had no texture from the whites I expect from an egg drop soup. After adding some of my own spices, it tasted fine so that I actually finished it. I worked in kosher Chinese takeout for a few years, and I know it can be so much better. A disappointing experience.

The staff team has no way of doing anything like that.

We had a great experience here. 7 of us went late dinner at 8:40. They told us they'd close at 9:15, but let us in. Beautiful pleasant decoration inside, great food as well! We ordered General Tso's Chicken (I asked for a regular and not spicy for the children, and both were just as we wanted) and Mongolian Beef, as well as 2 soups (Kids liked both) and a ton of vegetable rolls (which also liked by everyone). They brought the Mongolian beef into the pan, a fantastic way to serve it, and the children liked it very much. They asked to bring everything at the same time to speed us up, and it was very reasonable because they let us sit so close to the closing time. In addition, their entries did not come with rice I already knew by reading other reviews before the visit. We ordered a dish of regular fried rice and another with vegetable fried rice, both were great. It was just enough food for all 7 of us, and a fantastic experience. One of the children said that these are the tenderest Chinese they have ever had, and I tend to agree. Very pleasant experience, I wish we had such a Chinese in our city! Thank you.

Pro: Food was good, portion size was on the big page, menu had a lot of options, including vegetarian. Con: Dining room must be cleaned, there is a layer of oil on everything. A woman in a snout (owner? sat on a table snuff paper, while the other in a sniff stood in the same place next to a bar all the time and cried on people. For some bizarre reason, rice is NOT with ducks, and it does not say so on the menu hä?? Clean the place, include rice with entrees, and get some more imaginable staff and it will be 4/5 stars. Food tasted good tho after I had to ask for rice.

I ordered take out from there tonight and was sorely disappointed. I hadn?t been there in quite a while (since the management change). Maybe the chef changed too! The chicken with cashews contained fatty chicken that tasted like it was barely cooked, not like the crispy, flavorful chicken that used to be in it. The beef with broccoli had no flavor and didn?t have any garlic sauce on it. The vegetable medley was full of corn starch and American celery. Other than that there was no taste! The scallion pancake appetizer was burnt. Definitely this restaurant has gone downhill and this was close to the worst Chinese food I have ever had! I am sorry to report this because my family used to love the restaurant.
