My go-to dish is the vegan combination platter, but my husband recently tried one of their bowls during lunch and it was incredibly delicious. I might have to order it next time I visit NYC. The bowl with the spicy guacamole was particularly mouth-watering. The flavors are so good that I am already craving my next visit.
The outdoor seating at this restaurant is lovely, with friendly and attentive staff. The food is delicious.
The food at this restaurant is good, but it is very Westernized. If you are seeking a mix of Ethiopian and Western cuisine, this is the perfect place for you. I was somewhat disappointed because the flavors were not as bold and spicy as what I am accustomed to from my family's cooking. The awaze sauce also had a different taste than what I am used to - it was sweeter and almost creamy. I was hoping for the traditional berbere and tej flavors. Despite not aligning with my personal taste preferences, it was obvious that the food was well-prepared. I would recommend this restaurant to those who are not familiar with Ethiopian cuisine.
First time getting Ethiopian food and I'm not gonna lie, I'm still not entirely sure whether or not Ethiopian food is my cup of tea. However, I do believe Ras is a great place for your first time trying Ethiopian food and figuring out what aspects of Ethiopian food you like. Their two platters, Piassa and Mercato, give an excellent assortment of different foods on injera, and these two platters really allowed me to figure out which flavors I enjoy and which flavors I'm not particularly partial to. If you're new to Ethiopian food, I really recommend trying this place out!
I love this place but it would be great if in terms of accessibility they would add some diabetic-friendly beverages. I asked about this to the server and they replied it was an intentional decision not to have any diet sodas in the menu. While the restaurant offer other kind of sodas, it would be great if you’d think about it in terms of justice and accessibility for folks dealing with chronic diseases and disabilities.
