Petit Colon - Buenos Aires

The cafe opened in 1978. It is a few steps away from the Colon Theatre, in front of Lavalle Square, in the Law district, with the Justice Palace one one side of the park. Haunted by lawyers and business people during the week, it is mainly a cafe, though they also serve light meals.The boiserie, the drapes, the gilded details, the tapestry, the outstanding bar, the dark wooden chairs and tables so typical of the old-time porteño cafes make it irresistible.

The atmosphere here is great, as is the service. The breaded veal was just OK, and the gnocchi was real good.

This is a beautiful old building very close to the Teatro Colon with lovely period features . However, was spoilt by slow service & disinterested staff particular the man behind the counter . We had to attract the waiters for service & we feel we were overcharged . My husband had a Spanish omelette which was 160 Pesos but came through charged at 190 pesos . After querying this the waiter did put the right price but when we paid we were charged another 40 pesos on top of the wrong price previously noted - as we were not shown breakdown of this it went through before we could question it . For the one & only time in our few weeks in BA we did not leave our usually generous tip . The food was average as was the coffee & although the atmosphere is lovely we don't think it made up for the staff - this is the absolute only time in Argentina that we have not found the staff very pleasant ,helpful & friendly & the service was very slow. After the experience we had with overcharging we will take particular notice of what comes through on our credit card .

We stopped here for lunch before visiting the Teatro Colon (which is just around the corner). Food was very good and the waiters very attentive. It's a great café with lots of art deco - very smart - very Parisien!

You can have some snacks or have lunch with a warm couple of coffee. Beautiful coffee store, a few steps from Colon Theather. Friendly service.
