Food awful waited 2 hours for our food to arrive. When it came overcooked. Vegetables burnt chicken dried up.
As i always heared very good things about the caravela, i decided to have the staff evening of the TASTY SPOT in this restaurant. Very tastefully decorated, very friendly staff. The chef Augusto Lima prepared a variation of starters all absolutely fantastic. The modern twist to the dishes was amazing. As the main we had a tajin of chicken and of prawns. And then a dessert variation. If i had more days off i would go there more often. During winter i surely will do. Big compliments!
We have never eaten here before and it was closed this time last year. It looks a bit uninviting from the outside but was actually lovely and bright inside. Some of the food was a bit experimental (dessert with tuna!) but everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The chef was cooking fresh fish cataplana in the restaurant itself and those who ordered were offered second helpings. Definitely worth a visit
A little back story. We went to Burgau in 1987 for our honeymoon and loved our meal at Caravels. We went back 3 years ago and had a horrible meal and it closed soon after. This year it has reopened under new ownership. So, it is very nice inside and the staff is very nice. The shrimp appetizer was very good. However, the entrees were just ok. If there was a 3.5 rating, that's what I would give it. But they don't serve Catalplana, the native Portuguese dish, so 3 it is!
