Lots of choice and a good place on a rainy day. Skylight extension at the back made it feel light and airy. Nice local hazelnut gateau and excellent freshly squeezed juices. Looked poular with the locals.
Walking in just reminded me of chocolate shops back home in the uk! All in a glass cabinet or in packaging on shelves. Had a cheeky purchase too
Before leaving the town I had to try and take along some 'Solothurner Torte', which had been recommended to me. This product might be less town than other Swiss cakes, such as 'Zuger Kirschtorte' or 'Engadiner Nusstorte', but it sure is a treat and one of my favorites. A good place to get this delicacy is at the 'Suteria' in the very central main street of the beautiful little town. This cake has apparently been created at the beginning of the 20th century and has since been patented. It consists among other things of meringue, cream, eggs and hazelnut. It is quite soft and not easily eaten by hand. The 'Solothurner Torte' comes in different sizes. For take-away - as a present to my wife - I got a package with four small, just two bite pieces and they were received with great pleasure.
If you want to taste the Solothurner cake, this is the place. It is amazing cake, not too sweet for the people who doesn't like sweets. They have some other small snacks too but I guess people come to this place for the cake. The place was quite busy when we came. I can imagine it is one of the most popular place in Solothurn. However, the staff did pretty good job in providing the service. The coffee is worth the visit as well.
