The poutine hot dog drink combo at NY Fries is a delicious and satisfying option for only $11. The lineups are shorter here compared to other places in the food court like Tim Hortons and Subway. Plus, you have the freedom to customize your hot dog at their self-serve station.
I would choose fries over friends any day. When have fries ever disappointed you? (Except when they're limp and sad looking, just kidding. My friends are great too.) It's been ages since I've had NY fries. These were a favorite of mine growing up. The large or extra-large size is the way to go! These fries are fresh, thick, and full of potato flavor. In my opinion, they are one of the best things you can get in the food court. I love that they leave the skins on. These fries are so flavorful, you don't even need ketchup!
New York Fries is a reliable choice for poutine if you happen to be in a mall food court. They can be found in almost every mall food court in the Lower Mainland. Interestingly, there is no New York Fries in New York. The poutine here is simple comfort food, not gourmet, but it satisfies a craving. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. The portion size is small but sufficient. I'm not a big fan of their fries as they tend to be soggy, even without gravy. However, I do appreciate that they leave the potato skins on, resulting in crispy and charred edges. The gravy is thin and salty, and the cheese curds are standard, chewy, and moist. Overall, it's not bad, but I personally prefer Costco poutine over this option.
I could surprise myself when I came across this list: How did I not review this unit of New York Fries yet? I've choked it countless times over the years, and not yet a single word about it on TripAdvisor....You'd be my longstanding praise for this chain, I would have said something. Strange! Oh, good. Now is as good a time as any . . . . . and, hey, I can break this list of 5 year review drought! In any case, it is nice to visit the Metrotown Food Court and actually find a table where you can enjoy your meal. I would protect the food court a few times while COVID restrictions were in full swing and, well, looking for a seat (and table) proved more challenging than to sniff that hot boxing day deal at Best Buy. Admittedly, the pandemic still rags – despite the narrative that our politicians encountered – but it is nice to have something normal today. It makes a pleasure like New York Fries so much more satisfying. I think New York Fries is at the top of the proverb leader. Regardless of the location, the frits are always hot, crisp and beautifully salted. If you want to upgrade to a poutine, well, that is just as delicious. I mean, make it: Fresh New York Fries, authentic cheese curds and rich beef bread. It is a guilty pleasure and oh so Canadian! Every time I visited this place, it always had a line, but the staff navigates it efficiently. I assume this is a skill that works in a busy place like Metrotown. Nevertheless, I appreciate the warm interactions. Work in these positions is not easy, especially in a persistent pandemic. I say: Thank you for the consistent supply of good food. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: There is not much to say about New York Fries. They are delicious, either by themselves or as a poutine. If you are in the mall and need a quick bite, check it! PS: I'm glad TripAdvisor got rid of the lame “NYF” listing title that they used a few years ago. “New York Fries” looks so much better!
