I prefer to wait a little longer to guarantee that my meal is served hot and fresh, rather than settling for lukewarm food and soggy chips. The lightly battered fish they prepared for me was delicious and the portion size was generous. The mushy peas and tartare sauce were also excellent. Overall, a fantastic dining experience!
After hearing about this restaurant from the media and locals, I decided to give it a try. I visited on a weekday around 6:30pm, but was disappointed with my experience. The first thing that greeted me upon entering was the overly loud music playing. The young female staff seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than attending to customers, and there was a lack of basic manners such as greetings or polite language. I ordered the fish and chips, but was underwhelmed by the portion size - the chips were small and the fish was mostly batter. It seems that the only reason people go to this restaurant is because there are limited options in Prestwich village. The prices are high for what you get, making it not worth the hype. In my opinion, it's best to avoid this place.
I decided to give this restaurant a try after hearing so much about it, but was disappointed to find that there was nothing special about the fish and chips experience. The only highlight was being greeted by the fryer/owner as soon as I approached the counter. Finding parking nearby without encroaching on double yellow lines was a challenge. I had to wait at the counter for a while before being served, as the staff seemed busy with other tasks. The biggest issue was the lack of flavor in the food, and the addition of a slice of lemon in the box was off-putting. The price was also on the high side, with my meal costing nearly £10. In my experience, nothing compares to the fish and chips in Scarborough, Bridlington Harbour, and Hull on the east coast.
Been here twice and the food is absolutely gorgeous. We have had fish and chips with pea fritter. My husband is really fussy and he loves them which is incredible considering how faddy he is! Think the beef dripping makes them so delicious
First time here. Ordered Cod and Chips, Rag Pudding, and the Fully Loaded chips. Everything was 10 out of 10. Portion sizes ample. Only a few seats available and can get very busy, so ate in and had takeaway too. No WiFi at location. No phone so no phone ahead orders at this time. Love that the ingredients are sourced locally. Lightly battered fish available upon request. The beef drippings added a whole new level of flavour. The loaded chips were absolutely fantastic like having a delicious lasagna but made with chips instead of pasta. The taste of fennel really came through and was so smooth. Thank you Chips no. 8 for fresh food, a clean restaurant, and of course excellent service even though it was at the end of a long day.
