Prawn Star - CAIRNS CITY

A meal at Prawn Star is worth the effort. If you want deliciously fresh seafood caught daily, give this unique and friendly mini restaurant on two authentic docked fishing boats a try.We loved how Prawn Star has a limited seating and a limited selection of meals. Just strictly seafood. Don't expect fish and chips. Just deliciously freshly caught prawns, oysters, crayfish, sashimi, mud crabs etc.Wine and beer is $5 each. Such a great value place to enjoy a meal overlooking the Cairns Marina and beautiful mountains beyond. It is also adjacent the Shangri La Hotel and boardwalk. The staff are super friendly and the vibe is casual, cool and relaxed with the sweetest, funky mini bar at one end of one of the boats.We enjoyed the large seafood platter, it was sensational. You don't get much fresher than that. We got there early just before 6pm as we did not want to miss out on getting a seat. There are limited tables, just a few large tables and a few small ones spread between the two boats, so expect to share the tables with others.Bravo Prawn Star. What a unique and enjoyable experience.

I don't know 100% sure but I have the feeling that you have lunch or dinner on the boat that catched the seafood.. Choice is limited and food is served without side dishes but it doesn't matter because it just tastes damn good.

The service was with a smile and often a joke that hit the spot, the prawns and the bugs were fresh, the beer was cold and it was all served quickly. Just watch how much you order - it's tempting to overdo it! However, what more needs to be said? If you're in Cairns and would like a taste of the local seafood while on board a couple of old fishing trawlers, there's no better place to go. The air's salty, the seafood's salty, the humour is salty and the beer is fresh.

What a great idea, climb on board an old boat and enjoy the very freshest seafood. Shared a tray of prawns and a glass of house wine. Bliss! Simple food & great value. Highly recommend it!

This was a wonderful way to have lunch. Great atmosphere, fresh seafood. They were accommodating to preparing what I wanted, smaller portion of oysters and sushi sashimi. Selections limited due to freshness.
