I was intending to go to a nearby Korean restaurant, but on our way there I had an abrupt change of craving and decided to give Slap and Pickle a try. As a result Slap and Pickle quickly became my favourite Cairns lunch spot as it has all the thing I look for in a restaurant; great selection, portions, value, presentation, quality, and consistency. Staff are friendly, service is quick, and ingredients are fresh. If you’re looking for a great place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch then you can’t go wrong with Slap and Pickle. About a month ago I gave their prepared meals a try. I am embarrassingly lazy when it comes to meal preparation so was tempted by some delicious pictures on their Facebook page. I put in an order via Facebook messenger and was told pick up was on Monday. I had requested 10 meals with no specific selections. I received a delicious assortment of prepared meals demonstrating Slap and Pickle’s culinary abilities. I don’t recall exactly what was in the first order, but I have since ordered the prepared meals almost every week since so that should go to show how I feel about them. You can customize the orders, but I trust Slap and Pickle to make the selections for me based on what is fresh that week. The meals come individually packaged in cane paper containers and store well for a few days in the fridge. I tried freezing some of them and found they take well to it, but it did sacrifice some of the freshness. Let’s talk about the sandwiches, more specifically the reuben... I’ve been searching for a good legit Reuben in Cairns for the last few months. Slap and Pickle definitely have it. Tried NOA’s Reuben, but unfortunately it’s a corned beef bunwich, and more inspired by a reuben than actually being one. Slap and Pickle’s reuben hits all the points. Quality sauerkraut, perfect bite from Swiss cheese, and the bread is solid. The bread isn’t a proper Jewish deli rye, but is more than acceptable. In fact, I think I prefer it over traditional thin light ryes you normally get with a cured meat sandwich. Great staff, great food, and well priced. Highly recommend for a quality meal.
Great food (you won’t find a better breakfast than the “full shebang” , great coffee and friendly service. Get into it!!
I have dined in and got a sandwhich to go and both were excellent. Really happy this place is near work. Food is tasty, service is friendly. Even more impressed that the sandwhich to go was in fully compostable packaging. Nice one Slap Pickle.
Great vibe, food and music. Excellent place to stop over for brekkie or lunch!
