A favourite place to go to when I am in Bolton. The coffe is fantastic the staff is always great and it's an actual fine food market. The fresh baked goods are delicious no matter what your taste. Great price point as well.
Ordered 2 cakes for a family functions (strawberry shortcake and the other was a carrot cake). both were ready as promised - cakes were simply incredible - fresh, moist, flavourful - they were loved by all!
They used to have a nice Veal Sandwich special on Mondays-Tuesdays but it was hit and miss. One time it was big and hot, another time it was smaller and almost cold. The next time they were out of veal so I thought I'd explore their other hot counter options. BIG MISTAKE, the prices are unclear and there is no portion control. Typically in the late afternoon "hot counter" type places will give you bigger portions so they don't end up throwing food out.The server basically made a plate as if for herself and she looked about 60 years old and under 5feet, not taking into account that i'm 6'2 over 200lbs, if i'm paying 20$!! For a plate of food it better be full, I didn't go there to get a half portion of food lol. I'll admit the asparagus and potatoes were very good but the tortellini was very basic with a tasteless sauce.I actually said "is this it? Could I get some more pasta" and she said I'd have to pay for another portion (8$). Are you kidding me, the tray was nearly half full and it was 4pm, why couldn't she put another scoop on to make me happy.I frequent 4 other Italian "hot counter's" who give the same amount of food for 10$ and their pastas actually have flavour and the food is hot.The server was also cold and unfriendly to me, as I sat to eat she helped a regular customer who "I heard them talking" goes there everyday to pick up dinner for her kids, I watched her liberally fill up containers and the lady even asked for the cheesier side of the tray and she's happily obliged. I wanted to throw my plate on the floor and walk out. This lady literally got 5 times the amount of food I did for 10$ more. Last time I ever went there. There's plenty of places where I can leave comfortable full for 10-15$
We live in Bolton and go occasionally to Mercato for a treat. The gelato is really good. The one we really like is the fig gelato. They make it when in season. Their cakes are good too. However we find that they are expensive compared to same level of bakery stores.I also find some of the employees are not very friendly. We once went just 10 mins before they were closing. One of the employee came at the door and said the store was closed. I looked at the watch and it was still 10 mins to go. She wouldn't let us in. I found her tone very rude.Anyway we hardly go there anymore
