Lucky Place Restaurant - Calgary

We had the King Crab Combo for 6 persons: King Crab 4 courses, crab meat and fish soup, fresh pineapple sweet and sour pigs, bean curb bean sprouts in soup stock, stir fry e-fu noodle, deep roasted whole chicken. The combo was quite a lot....Portion was good for 10 people if you weren't big eaters, but food was really so. This restaurant was known for fresh pineapple sweet and sour pork and deep roasted whole chicken. The sweet and acidic pig is very Canadian-Chinese style, which was not authentic, although the pineapple was fresh. Deep fried whole chicken was quite dry. The food in general was quite bland. Note, it was not the yellow skin fee running chicken. Personally, I wouldn't return to regular dinner. Not worth the ride.

During our visit to Calgary we were presented to the Lucky Place Restaurant by our friend who lives in Calgary. We were impressed as traditional Cantonese cuisine is just as good as in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We especially like the sweet and sour pork baked with fresh pineapple and served in a pineapple dish. The kitchen is not only good, but affordable, good place to enjoy a great Chinese meal when you visit Calgary.

Servers are very helpful and polite. Portions are very generous. I did not find it expensive given the quality and quantity of food. I'd eat here again.

Service was great, food at best average. We ordered 4 dishes shark soup, chicken hotpot, noodles and 2 vegetable dishes. Overall, we paid $170 because we were not satisfied and hungry because we did not finish the food. For this price you can pay for higher quality.

Lucky's food is predictable and good. The dishes are varied and the portions are reasonable for the price. The service is usually good and the servers are friendly and helpful. If you are a Chinese food lover this is one of the places to be...in Calgary
