Pretty much tried everything and I must say - tasty, authentic and just about the right amount of spice for a buffet. We were a party of six and all of us enjoyed the adventure. My only comment to the management - you need to keep the buffet stocked otherwise people become disappointed quickly. I gave them a very good rating for food quality but would give them poor for quality as we scraped the bottom of the pans each time. One of the other nice bonuses was the hot buttered naan bread - this filled us up when the buffet didn't quite fulfill our wants.
One of the worst experience of our life in a restaurant. Went with my parents. Had booked groupon for 4 but our son also joined us. He didn't wanted to eat there as he doesn't like south indian food. However the waitor Hardik was adamant that we have to order food for him or else he has the right to kick us out. There was one additional family other than us in the entire restaurant. Never seen this kind of attitude anywhere. Food also sucked.! will never go back. At the end he even charged gratuity of 18% when the server came for once to serve the food. The gratuity was charged based on total value of the food and came out to be higher than per person cost of the food .Total scam and rip off. AVOID!
This is a decent South Indian restaurant in Calgary. We ordered the masala dosa (savoury crepe with stuffed potatoes), masala uthapam (savoury pancake with onions, tomatoes, etc) Kerala fried fish (was spicy), lamb biryani, coconut prawn curry and India-Chinese style Manchurian cauliflowers. Along with Taj Mahal beer. All the items were pretty good.
Mysore masala dhosa and rassam were the best. Ordered takeout and food was nicely packed. Nice staff and customer service as well. Highly recommended for South Indian food in Calgary.
I am very picky about my food, and have tried several restaurants around Calgary that serve South Indian food. By far none are comparable to Masala Bhavan. The dishes especially, Dosa, Vada, Idli, sambhar are amazing. The butter chicken is by far the best I have had. Their starter has Kodi Vepudu a chicken dish that is amazing and the best I have had (be warned it is really spicy).! Their Chilli chicken (dry) is a dish favored by all in my family. Their sweet Lassi is the best on this side of the world. I would recommend eating in rather than do a take out, based on my personal experience. If you love authentic and genuine taste of South Indian flavour, I would definitely recommend this place!
