This is the OG modern steak location /Modern ocean up top! Decided to come here as they told me the food at kensington is the best location had to give it a go!! Service : phenomenal from start to finish. As we came in, right away we were greeted with our hostess who found us a super romantic spot downstairs (stake resto) We were in a nice booth behind the main dining area and it felt very exclusive loved it! Our waitress came right away to explain the menu .. a little sad they didn't have soup on the menu as it was super cold and needed something to warm up. Nonetheless the food was absolutely fantastic everything was 5 stars fresh and melt in your mouth ! My drinks I had several.. martinis , some tropical breeze drink .. Overall the highlight was the fabulous steak my oh my this is arguably the BEST STEAK i have ever had in my life!! I don't think I can find a better place for steak this was absolutely divine. If you want a real steak i suggest this place and only this place .. Alberta is known for beef so i mean it makes sense :p Oysters were fresh and delicious, Shrimp were very fresh as well but our lobster tails were a lil overcooked. Mushroom risotto absolutely extraordinary yumm Overall such an amazing experience and a great place ! Best steakhouse I have been to ever !! 100 recommend Cheers

As tourists, my friend's mission was to try some steak and booked a reservation here about a week in advance. We sat on the rooftop patio which had a nice casual vibe. My friends ordered the tomahawk dinner to share and for me, as a pescatarian I ordered the jumbo prawn risotto. I thought my dish was delicious and surprisingly really filling. My friends were stuffed too and barely finished the main course. This restaurant sits in the mid to high price range but I think the overall experience including the customer service makes it worth it. Also... they give you truffle popcorn for free. Yum !

Really fantastic place for a meal, beverage or just to enjoy a sidewalk table. Calgary is a tough town for restaurants so you need an edge to keep customers returning. Modern Steak has the right equation to make a run for it. Located a short walk from the observation tower, Modern Steak offers an inside or outside table experience. Frankly I 'm not sure why they have the title Modern other than its easy to remember. On my first visit, I shared the porterhouse steak for two with a friend. It was perfectly cooked and had the taste I hoped for. We also shared a skillet of garlic bread. Oh how many miles will I have to walk to burn those calories and who cares! The bourbon selection is fantastic and their prices are lower that what I see in the States. So, oh yeah I 'm coming back!

Tomahawk Steak! Was very nice, not my favourite cut even though a nice change. Sides were tasty and service was nice.

One of our favourite things to do when we travel is splurge on an expensive steak dinner with a good bottle of wine. Somehow it lead us to modern steak. We ordered two drinks, a bottle of wine, two caesar salads, a filet grass fed steak, ribeye steak and three sides, and creme brûlée. For the final price tag of $250. The sides were about the best part. We got the beets and horseradish, fully loaded potatoes, and garlic mushrooms which all were very tasty. Honestly the ribeye steak had so much fat on it, you ate maybe ate 1/4 of it. The filet grass fed sirloin was recommended by the server being a more lean cut for women so that's what I choose. It was so burnt on the outside you had to cut the entire outside of the steak off. No we didn't complain when they asked us how things were. Date nights are so happy and fun for us so we just ate what we were given but honestly we wouldn't go back again. The sever was decently friendly but he checked on us maybe for two hours three times. We tried to start a convo and he walked alway answering us which we felt like he didn't care at all. We tipped and paid our bill and left. We also felt like it was super unprofessional of the women manager or supervisor to be telling the bartenders right behind the curtain about how they need to be clearing wine glasses faster like this table right here and she came over and grabbed our wine glasses and said she'd be taking these when we were waiting for our wine to be brought to us. As we heard her giving the bartenders heck. We would not recommended this place to anyone. For the price you pay you may as well check out the keg for better quality service and food for cheaper. Don't spend your expensive date night here.
