A family favorite, this Indian/African influenced restaurant offers some traditional dishes I grew up with.
I love their foodThe service is always awesome, and I love how amazing they are as a team.
This is one of my friend's favourite restaurants when she has work in Calgary. I had heard months of build up until I finally had the opportunity to join her. She said it is African cuisine so I trust her. We had a cassava plate, some short ribs and a curry. The cassava came in the spicy sauce, which to me is not terribly spicy. It has kick, don't get me wrong, but I use hot sauce in almost everything I eat. Then came the ribs. We had them in medium sauce. This isn't a typical hot sauce. This is a blend of spices with some liquid which is likely typical of African hot sauce. They give you yogurt, tamarind, green hot and red hot sauce. I had fun trying all the combinations. The curry came out last with rice and flatbread. The curry had a candle below it to keep it warm as you ate. I find this a nice touch since it was much colder outside. I drank a Chai drink which was creamy and had little need for sweetener. I like the multitude of flavours this whole meal conveyed. Since it was my fist time, it probably showed from my excitement with the meal, there was a little bit of ice cream at the end to cleanse the pallets that we shared.
I have been here before as it was walking distance for lunch. On this occasion 8 of us came after a night at Escape2gether (locked room venue) celebrating a birthday. We just wanted a celebratory cocktail and munchies. My gin Caesar was standard - no pepperoni or pickles added. The featured beer (can't remember the name) was popular for the group. As was the garlic naan. We all had an order and it was warm light and flavorful. Me and two others shared the chicken mishtaki (skewers) and meatballs. Both were very tasteful. I also tried another friends spinach balls. Can't remember what they were called but are like pikouras. Again light and delicious. It was a great place to end our evening. The service was excellent. I really do think this place deserves everyone to try it. I have had their entrees and they have never disappointed. Prices are average for entrees (around $25). The decor is pretty cool in my opinion and versatile enough for business and a romantic couples night. It really does deserve a try.
