A gem of a restaurant located in central square. The house special vegetarian combo is vegan and delicious. Loved the variety of flavors that worked well in combination or alone. One nitpick is that the menu could be labeled a bit more clearly to show vegan items. Dietary restrictions: Good vegan options

So good. It’s hard to find decent food in the area and that’s a gem? Update: went with friends. We ordered and then realised we want more food, the waitress just poured the new food on the used dish. It was really odd.

I’ve been coming to and loving Asmara for many years, and it’s always the very best. Consistently delicious food and kind service. I usually get the vegetarian combo, and it’s very filling with all the different lentil/bean dishes, as well as being a great combination of flavors from the rich stews to the tangy cabbage. They will bring you extra injera if you want, but don’t forget to eat the bread covering the bottom of the platter, which has soaked up all the flavors from the dishes sitting on top of it. That’s the best treat at the end of the meal. I’ve also tried their homemade honey wine, which is a bit too sweet for me on its own, but is great to drink with the food—a nice balance to the spice.

Homemade Mes at Asmara in Cambridge. Mes (or Tej) is an Ethiopian honey wine. It has been a favorite of mine for decades. When we heard that Asmara was making the own Mes, we battled the traffic to Cambridge on a very cold wet night. Parking was a disaster, and there was a long wait at the restaurant. But the atmosphere was jubilant and the Mes was outstanding! We were actually seated at another restaurant in another neighborhood and left because they did not have homey wine. It is a perfect complement to the food.The server was wonderful and pleasant, even though they were clearly very busy and it was nearing closing.The food was wonderful. We have our favorite Ethiopian dishes, and this restaurant did not disappoint. Everything was beautifully spiced. We were excited that they had a combo veggie and a combo meat. The restaurant felt warm and welcoming, and we were so glad that we made the drive from Boston to Cambridge to experience it. The homemade mes was exquisite. We will be back!

I want to leave a negative review for a restaurant that did not provide good service.The service at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. We were not attended to in a timely manner and the staff was very rude. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.We need to stand up and go.Thank you.
