Ernie's Roadhouse - Cambridge

The location is nice, there is ample parking, and there's a number of shops you can visit right across the street, and the back portion of the restaurant can be opened to the outdoors and the evening breezes. On the other side, the facility is on the cheap side with old furniture, a rather unkempt look, and sometimes sketchy patrons. Then we get to the atrocious starters. I meet with a group here on a semi-regular basis and the last time I was there I ordered onion rings. When I got them, the rings had all the "onion" taste cooked out of them, all that was left was breading and cooking oil, and the dipping sauce tasted like elmer's glue. Two months ago I ordered the fried mushrooms which were overdone. I managed to finish those, though I should've sent them back. Other people in my group ordered dishes like poutine and burgers and they finished their meal - that tells me the food preparation is hit or miss. The beer was ok, which is good because it's hard to get that wrong. The service was also ok.

Not impressed. I would not eat there. It is a watering hole. Dirty. Smelly. I wanted to leave as soon as I walked in

Stopped in here the other day to give them another shot since they had new management take over. My last experience a few years ago was not good and I've never been back since. The food was quite good - had the wing special and the onion rings were awesome although I'd likely try a different dipping sauce for them. It really seemed just like Mayo and could be improved on. The service was middle of the road but the waitress seemed quite busy so I'd give her the benefit of the doubt this time. I'd come back again.

Ownership has changed many times. Each time you look at the location and say they've got a prime location and maybe the next owner will do a complete facelift to the restaurant - but NO only minimal changes are made .The interior is dirty and dingy . The tables haven't been refinished properly in a long long time . The service staff have been the same people in some cases , that quickly give you the feeling they wish they could be anywhere else - they would . No smiles , no friendly banter and clearly no positive suggestions about what might be new on the menu that the customer might like . Everything seems to be a chore . Last visit , we were the only ones in the restaurant side and we waited 30 minutes for a salad and a burger with fries. Neither the food or the service or the environment was worth the wait.

There really should be a big sign outside - we had no idea this was a place to eat until we saw someone going in, and we decided to check it out. A greta selection of draft beer we had an Elora IPA - fantastic! We ate the mixed tacos - all three were very tasty. For us, the highlight was the friendliness of the staff and the people in the pub. We will definitely go back there.
