We were exploring the John Soane museum nearby and were in need of a meal. The restaurant had the exact look and ambiance we were hoping for, and the food exceeded our expectations. The chicken pie was delicious and the fish and chips were the best we had during our trip, especially after two disappointing meals at other restaurants.
This restaurant is fantastic with excellent service! We enjoyed delicious cocktails and snacks. The ambiance is simply delightful.
The Oak room upstairs is a quirky and charming restaurant with a lot of character. The menu may be small, but the five different meals we ordered were all excellent. The dishes were well presented and delicious. However, I had a bit of a concern when it came to paying the bill. When I asked to see the bill, a waitress immediately brought over the card machine without showing me the breakdown of the charges. It turned out that we had been overcharged, including being billed for a bottle of wine instead of just a glass, and for a more expensive version of the red wine we had ordered. After questioning the charges, the bill was corrected and unnecessary items were removed, bringing the total down to just over £300. My advice would be to double-check your bill before paying.
Nestled down a side street behind Holborn tube is this lively studenty pub, certainly on a Saturday night. Nice, old wooden interior and good selection of beers on tap.
My wife and I went to the Ship Tavern based on a friend’s recommendation. It is located not far from the British Museum. We arrived on a rainy day with no reservations and we were warmly greeted. We went to the upstairs dining room (Oak Room) which was elegantly simple and made us feel very comfortable. The room was filled with locals having long lunches. It’s a place to spend some time at and just relax and enjoy the place. We both had ciders from the tap and ordered our lunches. The menu is not a typical pub menu. You can have a high dining experience at this tavern. The menu had Beef Wellington which looked great. We both ordered the Pot Pie of the Day. I had a Beef Pie and my wife had a Chicken and Leek Pie. Along with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. Both pies were large and filled with tender and tasty meat that they had a covered with puff pastry. We were so full that we just could not bring ourselves to order something sweet. We both really enjoyed our meal and dining experience at the Ship Tavern!
