I liked the crisp, clean, modern lines of the decor and everyone in our party really enjoyed the food. Our server was very personable and we enjoyed talking with him about the restaurant's history. There is a front entrance as well as a back entrance with parking.
6 of us went to this restaurant on a Saturday night. We were unimpressed with the food and the service. We asked if we could just order the patty from the burger without the rest of it, along with one of their salads. They said we could but the cost would be the same as an entire burger. The food was very ordinary and not particularly flavoursome. We ordered a citrus tart with meringue for dessert and also a cheesecake. Both were deconstructed with small bits scattered over the plate. We never did find any actual cheesecake. Nothing on the menu indicated that they were deconstructed. To the contrary....the menu said it was a tart and a cheesecake. Very poor value. Worth about $5 max. We were not impressed and will not go back. We definitely do not recommend it.
The Public, is a much improved Bar / Diner in many ways since our last visit, service has improved, however the food on offer is still pretty average, Mains are small portions mostly loaded with green leaves to fill what are essentially small, expensive servings.I agree with Mark W, “Ordinary food thank goodness for the Beer”, the introduction of a Happy Hour is a welcome must to keep people interested in visiting and returning.Live music on Sundays, is well below average, performers are needlessly loud The Public, should invest in some acoustic “soundproofing to reduce the din. Perhaps consider a DJ playing some cool Soul / Funk / Jazz to create a nice relaxed Lazy Sunday vibe.Overall, is much Improved, but still missing the Magic !! ?
I've tried the food twice before writing this review. Both times sadly it was burnt and pretty ordinary. First time I had a Thursday night special rump steak which was over cooked and chewy as hell. We ordered dessert and nearly broke a spoon trying to cut through the brown dense material that was supposed to be "chewy" brownie. To their credit they didn't charge us for it when we let them know our dissatisfaction but any chef worth their salt should never allow such poor baking to be served. Tried again today and same results. Kids burgers burnt on one side and soggy chips. On a side note the kids meals would be improved if they added a bit of salad. It would make parents happier too. Pita bread, however they warm it, just makes it taste burnt. Thank goodness there was beer!Hopefully the manager reads some of this feedback because it's a great local place just let down by the food. So the moral of this review is, just enjoy the beer!
We were brought here by a tour guide and all I can say is wow. The atmosphere was great (there was a party going on at the time)with a live band. Beer was good and food was fantastic! Perhaps it was the guide who knew the right dishes but all that we had was outstanding. We don't usually like lamb but their lamb was like none we had ever had before. The starters were savory and we loved everything that was served. We ordered many dishes to share among our group and we were pleasantly surprised at everything. Service was outstanding and efficient. Perhaps the bad reviews didn't order the right food? We have nothing but good review for this restaurant
