After a tough round of mini golf we strolled up the road to La Cave.In their nice shady outdoor section we enjoyed a few generously proportioned plates of meats, cheeses and salad.Food was great and all freshly prepared - take a wander inside and you can see everything being prepared. Not overly expensive at all and in fact a really good price considering the quality, a well deserved spot as #1 in Canet plage.
We stopped in at this tapas bar on our first night in Canet and have been back many times. It takes a lot of things to make a successful restaurant, and this one has them all mastered. A nice simple menu, excellent food, great preparation and presentation, wonderfully attentive (but not at all overbearing) service, good value - La Cave has it all!Merci Beaucoup to Patricia and team!
We visited La Cave bar and restaurant most days whilst on our week's stay in Canet. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the food is delicious, and all freshly made to order. They certainly deserve all the praises you can give them. Go and try it out for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.
I have been coming to Canet Sud for almost 15 years. It has recently begun to get more sophisticated but is still a sea-side resort with various restaurants catering to mainly lunch time visitors and people on holiday. Many restaurants are good - some are less so, but this is common to most places. La Cave (which attracts lots of locals) in Canet Sud is by far the best option to have (ham) tapas style eating and is next door to the ice cream shop which is next door to Le Liberty so it is easy to find. Now we are not talking about somewhere where you will get a three course lunch-time set menu. This is a small bar with seats on the sea front and it specialises in top quality ham and cheese (plus lots of lovely bread which keeps coming). They serve the best quality ham, Iberico and Bellota, if you have never tried these you are missing a treat, they literally melt in your mouth and the flavour is fantastic. The food presentation is way beyond others in the area, simple but artistic. The owner is an energetic and friendly girl called Patricia and you get a genuine welcome and good service. When we had lunch there a few weeks ago (late May 2017) there was a special of quiche which was beautifully cooked - light, crisp and full of delicate ham flavour. I don't often take pictures of food but have this time. My wife and I also shared an anchovy salad with fantastic mediterranean vegetables with lots of red peppers which is typical to the area. Absolutely lovely. There are many menu options but mostly based on (lovely) ham or Spanish cheese.Don't be a vegetarian though - this will not be the food place for you!The other thing of note is that as this was originally and although moving into food is still a wine bar / shop. The drinks - the house white wine for example and the Banyuls aperitif are superior to most other places in the area albeit a bit more expensive. You will not want to go here for a full meal but as a tapas lunch or shared starter - or just for a glass of wine - you will not get better. If you are lucky there will be a hot special.I am happy to recommend this place. It looks simple but serves real quality food with a real smile.
