Extra 18% charge was added on the bill unnoticedThere was no sign in the restaurant nor on the menu stating the extra charge. Some restaurants in Canada charge "party fee" for groups of 6 or more, but it is always reminded before you are seated, when you order, and it is written also on the menu. But not at Yama. 2) Instant Ramen quality at a restaurant priceCAD 15 / a bowl of miso ramen (Hokkaido) tasted as fine as the prepackaged instant ramen you can get in the supermarkets, it tasted ok. The egg on the ramen was not nitamago (Marinated Soft Boiled Egg), it was almost just raw! We wonder if it's because the restaurant is not operated by Japanese chef?!3) No rice at 6pm5 of us ordered 5 Ramen, and ordered one chicken rice bowl for kids, the waiter said they didn't have enough rice if we want more then one order of rice. So it's 6pm, at the beginning of peak hours in an Asian restaurant, they didn't prepared steamed rice. Ok. I felt that we were expected to order more meat dishes?! The waiter seemed so stressed about us not ordering "enough" that he had to ask us before we even finish ordering! It may because he need 6 order to make us as a "BIG PARTY"
We had a nice family dinner outside. The service was good, attentive, polite and quick. The food was tasty and decent sized potions. We would recommend.
It's so exciting to see a good noodle house in Canmore!! This place has a diversified menu of Asian dishes, as well as various ramen, but I always go for the vegetable / tofu ramen. There is a generous portion of noodles, I often can't finish the entire bowl. And the veggie ramen comes with a piece of bok choy, straw mushrooms, two slices of fried tofu and I believe daikon. As with all the ramen bowls, it also comes with seaweed (I believe wakame), and half a soft egg. I am not sure if the soup is vegetarian as well, I did not ask, but I recall it tasting rich and creamy. The ramen I get is not always consistent, sometimes the mushrooms and bok choy come not very cooked, and some times it all come cooked. But overall, after a cold day in the mountains, it is a welcoming meal. The restaurant is new and they have added a singing / guitar playing night as well, which was entertaining. The service is friendly and attentive.
My husband and I looked forward to trying out the new place in town. We arrive to seat ourselves. Which is fine, we are told they are sold out of some of the menu items... the restaurant has about 5 other tables sat. We sat for about 20 minutes without anyone coming by to take a drink order or to ask us if we've looked over the menu. During that time the restaurant completely empties.... with no one in site to take our order, we get up and leave... We see the gentleman that told us to seat ourselves behind the bar on the way out. He did not even give us a glance on our way out..... no worries, we won't be back....
Had the Kimchi ramen, it was ok. Nothing special, then I had the pork belly ramen another time, and again - it was just ok. Was sad that this restaurant isn't awesome. Was really hoping it would be super delicious.
