You can only choose 1 sandwich type each, so as there were 5 of us we all chose different fillings and then we had a choice. Scones were lovely with jam and cream and we had 2 each followed by a piece of cake- again just one cake each but it was a massive slice and we all needed to take ours home as we couldn't manage to eat it! Beware that if you ask for a top up of the tea/ coffee you are charged extra. We had a discount flyer but after using it , it appeared that we were all charged individually for our afternoon tea and the discount price for 2 people wasn't applied making the voucher pointless but we'd had a nice time so didnt question it. Would I return- yes I would.
First visit ....so a bit reluctant to jump to conclusions.Clean and tidy place. Had booked for Sunday Lunch . We sat for quite a while and no one approached us to ask if we wanted drinks. We eventually made our meal decisions and called over a waitress. The food arrived in good time but it was unfortunately tepid to cold. Hardly a Sunday Roast , The beef was so tough we just left it on the plate. No one asked why... or if the meals were OK. The sauces, mustard etc were supplied in little dishes. No spoons. You presumably were expected to slop it out with your knife. To be fair I think this is probably a comfortable afternoon cafe for tea and cakes. The overwhelming majority of reviews are about afternoon teas. And they seem very satisfied with their experiences. Maybe we picked a bad day, but I feel this place is not suited to midday roasts and hot cooked meals. They do seem very popular and comfortable with tea, sandwiches and cakes. I wish them well.
We were greeted and led to the large room upstairs, afternoon tea was served, excellent service wonderful happy people, nothing was too much trouble. The choice of sandwiches was good and very fresh tasty bread with lots of filling. The scones were served warm tasted very fresh with lots of jam and cream, the choice of cakes was very good and very large slices. We were offered boxes to take cake home that was not eaten. Having a room to ourselves was good as we were in a works meeting so nice and private. The tea was serviced in a traditional way. The worst bit was having to leave, my colleagues were very impressed with the cost of the afternoon tea, no one else has such good offer or service.
Lovely homely feel with table cloths and china cups. Staff very friendly and portions big. Good service
I visited here with a friend for afternoon tea on 28 Aug. It’s a quaint little place -coloured tablecloth-we were offered a menu -afternoon tea was £14.50 for 2 or £8 per person The gentleman serving advise of the choices for sandwiches on the menu -Tuna, Ham, Egg Mayo, Cheese, Coronation Chicken Roasted chicken -a good choice however you only get one of these with your a/tea -also only one scone one piece of cake -there were only 2 cakes in the cabinet to choose a slice from To add to our tea we ordered another 2 sandwiches (4 rounds) -roasted chicken egg mayo -on the a/noon tea we had chosen tuna ham We chose Earl Grey tea as our drink When the stand arrived with sandwiches there were the tuna ham cut into very nice finger sandwiches. We had asked for white bread for the egg mayo granary for all the other sandwiches The gentleman brought 2 plates of triangle cut sandwiches with a side salad -cut into quarters -crusts still attached. The bread was lovely however we were expecting them to be delicate finger sandwiches The scones were very flat -they tasted ok As we chose not to have the cake the pieces were put it into 2 separate boxes bags For the cost of the tea it was good value the quality was also good. The two gentlemen waiting on were obliging. It was just strange when we had to choose sandwiches out of a good selection but you were only able to choose one filling-not what one expects for an afternoon tea. Other food was being served whilst we were there it all looked smelled delicious
