We had a lovely drive up to O'Reilly's for a walk around and lunch. On arriving we walked up to the mountain cafe, both the men's and ladies toilets were out of toilet paper and hand towels. Upon finding a way through to the cafe deck area and locating a menu, I proceeded to line up to order our meal. The lady in front had requested a variation to the menu and that obviously didn't work out too well as she placed her drinks back into the fridge and stormed out of the cafe! We ordered a Mountain burger each(a $17 standard hamburger) which was bought out promptly to our table had to search the cafe for the serviettes and salt for the unsalted chips. The mince patty was cold and appears to be one of those frozen processed types and tasted like it. The buildings look like they have had better days renovation time? It is one thing charging gourmet prices, it is another serving food that is worse than kicked out from an outback truck stop. Considering the numbers of international tourists visiting this beautiful location it is embarrassing the low standards of this cafe. Bring your own lunch if you want to visit.
The ordering process was straightforward: I ordered two coffees with double shots and a roll from the pre-prepared options, which just needed to be cut in half and served. I had to clear the table myself, and while one of the coffees arrived with the double shot, the other one did not. After waiting 25 minutes for the roll, I eventually went up to inquire about it. The restaurant wasn’t busy at the time, and when I voiced my concerns, I was told that staff couldn’t issue a refund. Overall, this experience was disappointing. Also, I noticed that the table next to us had to ask for their food as well.
The prices are too high for what they provide. The food is average, but for the cost, I expected something extraordinary. I can easily compare it to similar places that offer much better value.
The coffee and hot chocolate are decent, but everything else we tried was disappointing. The service in the restaurant was poor, and the undercooked Indonesian steak was a letdown. At the café, the service was slow, and we received cold swirl rings and stale burger buns. I wouldn't recommend it for your visit to Lamington.
