My Place - Cardiff

Warm, rustic, and hearty are all appropriate words to describe the Polish food served at the restaurant in Splott. I had been wanting to visit for a long time, but it was only now that the weather became truly cold that my craving for soup, dumplings, and meat became unbearable. Two things immediately stood out to me on the menu. First, it is unique in a good way. Apart from Chinese cuisine, I cannot think of another menu in Cardiff that is as distinctive. Dishes like hunter's stew, rye soup with smoked sausages, and silky potato dumplings were all new to me and incredibly delicious. Second, the prices are affordable. A couple of large Polish beers were a steal, and the desserts were just as impressive as the starters. The vibrant beetroot broth was rich, earthy, smoky, and subtly sweet. My dining companion went through several paper napkins trying to avoid getting any of the colorful broth on her clothes. I have never tasted anything quite like it before.

I am disappointed to report that this restaurant is permanently closed, as confirmed by Google since October. I wish I had checked beforehand, but seeing it listed on Open Table and Trip Advisor made it appear to still be open. I was really looking forward to trying some authentic Polish food.

Dishes like hunter's stew, rye soup with smoked sausages, and silky potato dumplings were just a few of the interesting and delicious dishes I had never heard of. Second, it was affordable. A couple of large Polish beers were only £3 each; the main courses were even more reasonably priced.
