I really wanted to like this place having heard and read such good things about it.
I can concur the previous review. We were the "two guys at the next table" who had arrived 15 minutes earlier. I, too, thought the "duck meatloaf" was Spam. And I thought I recognised the kale salad as Costco. The slider trio were good, but the buns were Wonder-Bready. It sounds like we got the last of cheesecake, which was okay, but also wouldn't surprise me if it was Costco. I have no proof of the food being catered by Chez Costco, but it sure seemed so.My glass of wine had sediment.The highlight of the evening was witnessing our neighbouring table being chewed out by the "chef" for not having liked their appetisers. I had to assume she is a chef because she wore a hat.The porch's bug screens don't exist anymore. Some tables had dozens of dead insects on them.It was a big surprise after eating to learn that they don't accept credit or debit. Thankfully we were able to scrounge together the $70 this lousy meal cost.On the plus side, our waitress was good. I feel sorry that she will soon be unemployed when the restaurant goes under.The real shame is that we used to really enjoy Generations and went about 2X a year. Never again.
THE WORST dining experience ever--at Generations in Carleton Place. We've liked it before but it's new management. First, we were told there wasn't a menu and instead we would receive the only appetizer, entree and dessert they offered. The appetizer was 'buffalo pepperoni' which I'm pretty sure was sliced hot dog. Followed by 'duck meatloaf' which I think was canned spam. Hubby thought so too (and the guys at the next table) The salad tasted exactly like the kale cranberry Costco salad I buy all the time. The waitress asked how we we liked it and I made the mistake of being honest and saying it tasted like spam. She left in a huff. Then the 'chef' came out to bawl me out and say how insulted she was! At least she said we could leave without paying. By this time, I'm done but we're Canadian. We're polite. We stayed and Hubby finished his meal for which I no longer had an appetite. We were told they were all out of cheesecake so they served zucchini bread/cake with chocolate frosting for dessert. Hubby said it was good, but I didn't dare eat anything because I was pretty sure the chef had poisoned my food! At least the wine was ok. When we finally got the bill, we were told they didn't take debit or credit. Only cash or e-transfer. Didn't mention that when we ordered! BUT they didn't charge for my meal! Won't go back but we have a story to tell about the time I pissed off a chef over canned spam! Stay away! You can prob have a better meal at home! Even I can say that and I'm a terrible cook!
OMG! This restaurant has the best cook in Canada! Food is outstanding! New creations, wine pearing! I start to drool when I think about eating here! Never had a bad meal or bad service! Highly recommend eating here!
