It was a Saturday and really busy, but service was pretty quick and the staff were really friendly and efficient. The artefacts downstairs by the toilets are worth a view too. Place has such heart. Will definitely be back.
It is unfortunate to see a decline in standards at this restaurant. While it used to be known for its good quality food and great service, my recent experience left me feeling that it was not as good as before. It took a long time to get a menu and place an order, even though the restaurant was not very busy. Other customers also had to wait a long time to be served. The coffee I ordered was average at best, especially considering the high prices charged for their own roasted coffee. I opted for a cafetiere, but found it to be weaker than coffee from popular chain coffee shops. Additionally, one staff member loudly shouted across the cafe to customers instead of approaching them, which seemed unprofessional. The staff member also discussed personal matters at a loud volume, which was not necessary for customers to hear. Overall, this cafe seems to be on a downward trend despite its potential.
I used to frequent this restaurant regularly, as I was eager to support an independent business and I also enjoyed their breakfast. However, that all changed after my experience yesterday. Despite the broken glass right in front of the outdoor tables as a warning sign, we still decided to dine there. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and service was a far cry from my previous visits. The coffee was weak and unsatisfying, the breakfast baps were lacking in ingredients compared to before, and even the Rooibos tea was no longer available. It was a disappointing and disheartening experience. As we looked around, we noticed that new coffee shops nearby were bustling with customers, while this once-popular spot seemed deserted. It's clear that the decline in quality has led to a loss of customers. I used to eagerly anticipate dining and drinking here, so it's a real shame to see it go downhill. I hope they can make improvements and regain their former appeal.
Entering this improbably named establisment was like stepping into the past. Quiet, plain wooden furniture and an easy ambience. Food was good and the coffee excellent. Helpful staff and friendly service. A delight.
My favourite coffee shop in Carlisle. Great service , great coffee and the cheese scones are wonderful.
