I could have gotten a better steak for 20 Euros elsewhere. From the phone call to place my order, where they seemed unfamiliar with their menu, it was a disaster. I ordered Thai food, but what I received can only be compared to rubbery roast chicken in gravy with a few green peppers. It tasted like it came from a can. I had ordered a stir fry with chicken, vegetables, and noodles. However, my noodles came separately, for which I paid extra. To my surprise, it was oily tagliatelle with carrot and scrambled egg mixed in. When I served it, there was a distinct smell of wet dog. It's a shame that the food quality is so poor because the staff are very polite and welcoming.
The restaurant was not up to par. I ordered a shish kebab but was served tandoori lamb instead. When I inquired about it, I was told that they are essentially the same. The service was quite slow, there was no alcohol available (but you can bring your own), and the food was mediocre. It's okay if you're really hungry and craving Indian food.
It was odd that this restaurant was only half full on a summer Saturday night. The service was quick and efficient, and the curry dishes were excellent. My dining companion and I both found the spicy curries to be actually spicy, unlike other Indian restaurants that seem to only offer mild options.
Just called into this place to see what it was like. Okay looking restaurant and looked like good value for money as was deal on 2 courses for 15 euro. we both ordered different things so could try a variety. Starters were chicken tandoori and a chicken tikka dish and had absolutely no flavor at all and the chicken was so rubbery it made me wonder if it was chicken at all! Left most of it on plate. after quick conversation we said we would try the main and see if any better. The mains arrived and I tried the sauce on both first being a chicken cashew and pepper thai dish and the other being a chicken korma, both were completely tasteless and looked just as bad. Could not have eaten what was served to us as it was so bad. This is the first time I have left a restaurant because of how bad the food was. Explained to the waitress and told her we would pay for starters but could not possibly pay for the whole meal. Paid 15 euros and in my mind was far too much for what was served too us. No apology for the food that was served at all and would never ever set foot in this place again.
We had a wonderful tasty takeaway from the Shamrat. Served by a helpful friendly waiter and all three of us can heartily recommend the dishes we ordered. One shared starter, a spicy chicken jalfrezi, A lamb rogan josh and a special Shamrat curry, nicely cooked naan bread and a Bombay potato. Delicious.
