This review is aimed at vegans, tourists specially who want to go to a vegan friendly place, in this place the ONLY food that a vegan can eat is rice beans and (partially) the salad which is very basic itself. The picadillos which are very good, all have animal (powder) broth, so don´t fall for their vegan appearance! Another nuisance is they have a tv with high volume most of the time.
This used to be a mandatory stop. Nowadays, you can tell the oil in which they fry, is very old and is obvious in the taste of food. 0% healthy and it has never been such, but at least before, it was tasty and it was worth the risk.
We've been stopping here for years on our way to Camp La Cumbre. The food is typical Costa Rican, reasonably priced, and a good selection. We always purchase galletas de natilla and coffee, and usually gallo pinto, plantains Olla de carne, tamales and whatever else looks tempting. When in a group, we get a selection of different things to share. It's a great taste of Costa Rica and a requirement for us on our drive from San Jose to Los Santos.
This place has been in business for decades now, always open, always great food at great prices! Good coffee and options, don't expect a fancy place, but it's always clean and there's plenty of room to sit, and many different options to choose from. A must if you're in the area looking for a typical Tico place to grab a bite of local cuisine.
