Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though...
Really enjoyed our meals this week here. Service is very attentive and nothing is too much trouble when ordering meals. Can recommend the Sunday roast. Had three meals here this week and all where generous portions and great tasting. Very dog friendly as well. Highly recommend this pub for eats and drinks with great staff
We visited at the weekend as we were staying at a campsite close by. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and it is a lovely old style pub. As a family of 4 we had 2 adult meals and 2 childrens meals. The food was lovely and generously portioned and reasonably priced. Definitely would recommend.
Got to say...get here quick before these landlords leave. Lovely welcome, great food, wonderful service. Totally dog friendly. It will be a loss to the village when they go to enjoy a well deserved retirement. Could you reach the standards these have set!!!!!
