Hosteria De Castaneda

We recently had a marvelous lunch at this restaurant on a historical estate in Casteneda, Cantabria near Santander. We dined outdoors amidst a beautiful and serene garden setting. The food was equally perfect. Among the culinary gems of Chef Chili were: fried langoustines, prawns with potatoes in pastry, shrimp tails in cream, grilled vegetables, a perfect steak and the fabulous Cocido montanes (the local stew). This was complemented by the delicious desert of cheese cake and custard. The Chef also met and chatted with the diners during the meal — a very nice touch to a perfect meal. Highly, highly recommended!!!

I have had several mid-day meals, the last on new years day. The dignified old manor building is surrounded by quiet lush garden with shady trees, and in good weather it is possible to eat outdoors (highly recommended). Other than this, both the food and services were good to vary good, and the overall experience a most enjoyable one. Once out of the restaurant the Romanesque jewel of Colegiata de Castaneda is a few hundred meters away, and would constitute the perfect brooch for your meal, both body and soul.

Sin duda uno de los más bonitos lugares que visite. Fui con los compañeros de trabajo. Se come muy bien. Ambiente agradable, tranquilo y trato muy bueno. Me ha encantado el vino blanco. Habrá que volver en verano.

El servicio es muy bueno, la comida realmente estaba deliciosa, y el ambiente es espectacular rodeados de jardines y árboles. Como hoy es 20 de agosto hemos comido en una carpa justo pegada a lo que es la casa principal. Se está francamente fenomenal. Nada más llegar nos han obsequiado con un cava rosado y con unos conos rellenos de changurro que estaban realmente deliciosos. De igual manera sin pedirlo, nos han traído unos mojitos deliciosos para cambiar del segundo plato a los postres. En definitiva, un sitio para volver y repetir.
