Roots Modern Health Food - Castlegar

During a recent road trip we drove through castlegar and needed something to eat to go. We were hoping to find a healthy real food alternative and were so happy to find roots! Delicious food, prepared quickly and great prices!

We always place a large order when we have to feed a bunch of local friends. It is always prompt and the presentation is superb. It is the ONLY place in Castlegar with an organic, slow-food alternative and it helps that they are conscious of the health of their patrons. The ingredients don't need to be full of fillers or preservatives and they use fresh ingredient everytime. Beats pub food hands down!

Having just moved back to the Kootenays after living for some time on Vancouver's Commercial Drive (250+ restaurants in 17 city blocks), we've been experimenting with the local offerings to find favourite haunts ... Roots Modern Health Food MORE THAN DELIVERED. The Roots Breakfast bowl was superb - flavourful and abundant and fueled me through a long day. The counter service was informative and supportive with the proprietor handling my allergy questions patiently and with a level of confidence in the ingredients that set me at ease. The detailed menu offered much to return for, from breakfasts to quick lunches to comfort rice bowls and hearty soups and meal-salads, with a wide variety of beverages (and a kids menu ... so don't go the fast food route)! The restaurant is tucked away in a not too inspiring mid-town strip mall anchored by a Dollarama and No Frills Food however the shops that are sprouting up in between those box stores are proving to be independent gems with Roots Modern Health Food one such fine find! The atmosphere in the cafe is pleasant with good tunes, comfortable table seating, and charming graphics and design. This place would thrive in the competitive atmosphere of the big City, so certainly is a delight to have in town and very deserving of a visit and ongoing patronage in the 'Gar.

Our group stopped at this neat little cafe as we travelled through the mountains.We enjoyed their delicious home made salads, and veggie burgers made with legumes and served on spelt buns. The restaurant was very clean. The decor pleasant and simple. This place is located in a small strip mall near "No Frills".This eatery was recommended by a young man who worked at the Tourist Information Centre as we arrived in the Castlegar area. Excellent recommendation!

Food was tasty, presentation good, friendly staff. Could use new tables as they all seemed sticky. Otherwise everything appeared clean. I'd return for lunch again.
