We drove two hours from Dublin on a rainy afternoon and checked in around 2 PM, ready to enjoy the spa. Although our treatments were scheduled for 5 PM, we took the opportunity to relax in the pool, saunas, and explore other fantastic amenities. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff is exceptionally friendly! Our package included a 30-minute spa treatment and a three-course dinner for 150 euros, which was a great deal. My scrub and massage were amazing; I felt completely rejuvenated! Dinner was delicious, and the rooms were very comfortable. The buffet breakfast the next morning was outstanding as well! If you have the chance, take a stroll around the grounds. Overall, it's a wonderful little getaway to relax and indulge in some pampering!
I was here for a wedding this past New Year's Eve and it was amazing. This estate is breathtakingly beautiful. It is absolutely massive and is a perfect venue for a big wedding. The staff was great and super helpful every time I got lost wandering around the place. They have a full spa and pool with steam rooms. We stayed in the cottages next to the wedding hall which were beautiful and such a treat to stay in. I wish everyone I knew could get married there so I had an excuse to go back.
Brilliant hotel in relaxing countryside. Can not wait to get an excuse to stay here again. The only complaints I have are that the cellar bar is far too welcoming for you to leave at a reasonable hour, the beds are far too comfortable to let you get up respectably early, the breakfast way to good to risk missing and the pool is beyond too great to miss by having too big a breakfast. Man, it is just one tough decision after another. The food was exceptionally good. The main attraction for us was that unlike many restaurants the food was not pickled in salt to mask poor quality ingredients. Hence the flavour of the ingredients was evident and the health risk of high salt-intake lessened. Nice one. Do yourself a favour and try this one out.
Fantastic location with walks through the forest to the lake. Good food particularly recommend the Sunday lunch. Best of all the relaxing with indoor and outdoor pools, gym and thermal relaxation rooms.
Second time here. Four of us arrived for 2 nights. Our welcome was instant and friendly. The mini bus driver collected us from the car park, which is down from the main entrance to the hotel. There is limited parking at the front of the hotel. We had taken a picnic from home, but Ireland disappoints here with no picnic areas in evidence in the 90 or so miles we travelled to get here, so nothing else for it, we picnicked in the car park. The bemused mini bus driver kept driving past us as he drove other guests to/fro and eventually it was our turn. We finished our picnic just in time to avoid a torrential downpour. Reception advised that one room was ready one wasn't; it was about 3:30pm. No issue, we all went to the one room that was ready; they were side by side anyway. Complimentary chocolates and chocolate dipped strawberries arrived as a kind gift as the room wasn't ready; being a chocoholic I can vouch for their quality, damn moreish too. The rooms are quite big with a decent size separate bathroom. The room had a small TV, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, a fan and a kettle for in room tea/coffee. The fan was needed as no air con and the room was very warm. The bed mega comfy. The ice making machine was a few minutes walk from the room. Excellent breakfast choices as was overall quality, but coffee and tea were poor tasting. The service was sometimes slow with longish waits for tea/coffee and they ran out of croissants. I felt it unusual to see soy sauce beside tomato juice, new one on me as I use only Worcestershire sauce, which was nowhere to be seen. The night time main restaurant meals (3 course 40 euro with tea coffee 2 course 32 euro with tea coffee). All the food served here was under seasoned, some like the salmon main was bland just not good enough but the fillet steak had good flavour (fillet was an extra charge). I also paid extra for scallops, I got 3 scallops just mean portioned but the very few were tasty. So we went to the Oak Room restaurant in Cavan town for a tastier 3 course meal on our second night. We recognised a number of other hotel guests there too. It was a huge 30% cheaper. Back to the hotel: We ordered afternoon coffee for four, the coffee here was poor tasting too, again not good enough, no way and took far too long to come, and we were 5 minutes walk away from the bar. Picture this, a 4 star hotel serving poor tasting coffee, only one type of cookie available, no cake or other sweet selection on offer it is a hotel with chefs, it has professional kitchens, it has raw materials aplenty, bound to have hot ovens on the go often so why can't they muster cake?! Again next time, we went out for coffee. So they are driving away willing paying guests outside the hotel to eat and to find good coffee. The spa and pool area were perfect and great to relax in. A real nuisance the Internet it was not instant it was sporadic and as I had an Apple iPhone and iPad I needed the staff to set them up a few times over our stay and it took several minutes each time (I go to a 1 star hotel in Spain several times a year, its wifi is simple and instant and I never need help here) again not good enough. Finally the ramps on the driveway on the way in are brutal, even driving over them slowly they are brutal.
