Once seated at our new table, the owner suddenly jerked my seat with me in it to make room for the booth behind me. Then my husband’s steak was brought out and it took my entree at least five more minutes to arrive. The seafood kabob was overcooked and tough and the different seafood items on the stick were flattened and cooked beyond recognition. My baked potato was brown inside the skin, undercooked and inedible. Just an old boiled potato microwaved to heat it up. My salad had a yellow iceberg lettuce core in it. The bread was microwaved and tough, the table bussers put the dishes in the bus tray very loudly and it wasn’t pleasant.I was disappointed as we had been coming to Cuz’s for many many years. We hadn’t been back since Cuz died and the lack of his expertise and management shows. It used to be a boisterous happy place but there wasn’t even any music playing. The patrons dining there appeared subdued and suspicious. The ticket was $100 with tip. And we drove two hours to get there. I could’ve gotten a lot of groceries for that. Our server, however was excellent. She was on the ball. I worked in a restaurant for decades so I know what I’m talking about. They need to tighten up.
I have read several of the previous reviews and it appears that Cruz’s can be a “hit-or-miss” restaurant. Meaning that the quality of the food depends on what you order. There were 7 in our group; 4 of us ordered the brisket barbecue (so called), 1 BBQ beef short ribs, 1 fried haddock and 1 veggies pizza, with the following results. The fried haddock was reportedly the best fish the man had ever had. The portion was generous enough that he enough to take home. The BBQ beef short ribs were reportedly delicious and abundant. My wife ordered a pizza with green peppers and onions. I had opportunity to try the offering and we brought part of it home. I don’t claim to be an authority on pizza, but this was the first I have experienced being made with cheddar cheese. I’m pretty sure that the sauce was nothing more than tomato paste. Maybe that is the local preference, but neither my wife nor I cared for the concoction. Four (4) of us ordered the barbecue beef brisket. The worst bbq that I have had, until this experience, was bbq mutton in Hopkinsville, KY many years ago. It was probably the last that they had available, but was still edible and fairly good. Cuz’s was not. My experience with bbq has been that you can divide it with a fork. It was difficult to stick a fork into this offering, seriously! We received 3 “slabs” each. I had to try to hold it in an attempt to saw bites off with a steak knife. I could go on but in general, the brisket was under cooked, appeared to have had no rub or seasoning, had been sliced with the grain and had apparently been heated on the grill for consumption. The sauce offered appeared to be watered-down marinade. That was the experience of 3 of us. The fourth had two slabs that she said were edible, and only one that she couldn’t cut. Very disappointing! You might be wondering why we didn’t complain or send the meals back. Basically so as not embarrass or offend the young lady who had invited us on this venture. It appears to me that what Cuz’s well, it does very well, bu they really do need help with what they offer as pizza and bbq brisket. Too disappointed to think about photos.
