John O'gaunt Inn - Central Bedfordshire

We visited this restaurant for the first time and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the service was great, and the atmosphere was lovely. Our steak was cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and attentive. It was not a planned outing, but I'm happy we decided to go. We would definitely return.

I highly recommend this great restaurant with unpretentious yet attentive and precise service. The imaginative combinations of fresh ingredients are delightful, and the seating arrangements create a calm and intimate atmosphere despite the bustling restaurant.

I am not a regular at this restaurant, even though I live locally. I had enjoyed good meals during my previous visits. Without being able to view the menu beforehand, we took our time to look through the menu and special board. I was particularly excited to see that whole sea bass was a special at £19. After ordering drinks and food, we had a nice chat with our friends. Starters arrived - my wife and I shared the Camembert for £13 and also had 2 parfait for £11 each. For mains, we had 2 Asparagus tarts for £16, pie of the day for £16, and the sea bass for £19. All the dishes arrived in a timely manner except for the sea bass, which took an additional 5 minutes. When it did arrive, it was overcooked. Despite not wanting to cause a fuss (my wife's policy), I ate it but could hardly taste the fish. The grilled vegetables that came with it were tasty. When the waitress cleared our plates, I asked her if all the fish was grilled to this extent here, and she answered yes. Unfortunately, that dish spoiled the evening for me.

Lovely Sunday lunch here again. Warm welcome and attentive service. Lovely menu, I had the vegetarian options, tempura asparagus and sweet potato curry. My partner enjoyed the soup and roast pork. Two lovely desserts. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here, the menu is fairly limited but the standard of cuisine is excellent. Pricing is on the high side, more than we would spend for an everyday meal, so would only choose here for special occasions.
