They also tried to overload us higher prices on the invoice, then those who use the menu. Really bad food and very bad service. Don't go in!
We loved it!! The service was excellent and the presentation of the food was very creative and exotic. The prices were very reasonable. Definitely a must stop in Chachapoyas!!
We ate here twice in our five day stop in Chachapoyas and it was undoubtedly the best food we had here. The prices were also the most expensive but not ridiculously so and worth it for the quality. The guinea pig (cuy andino was particularly good. The two things that let this place down are: 1 the service. It goes from being excellent as you walk in to disinterested really quickly. On our second visit our plates weren’t cleared for 20 mins and we’d finished our drinks (we would happily have ordered another! 2 the presentation of the food and drinks (see photos . It’s eccentric but to the point that it’s genuinely difficult to eat and fit two cocktails and meals on the table at once.
GO .... just go and enjoy. It is such a unique place, from the decor to the food and how it is presented. I was part of a small tour group, including north americans, argentines and peruvians. Everyone enjoyed their meals and took pictures of these extremely creative, expressive and tasty culinary offerings. Good, friendly service. A wonderful memory !
Wow. El Batan del Tayta is kind of coup de foudre (lightning strike out of nowhere). The food is interesting, creative, whimsical and delicious. The presentation is likewise creative, unexpected and playful. In Chacopayas and in the area, this restaurant is operating on a totally different level! This is a must visit restaurant for anyone who enjoys good food and/or the aesthetics of presentation and preparation. And unlike some of the foodie must stops in Lima, this is not a pretentious place nor is the food precious or dolled out at the micro/molecular level. While one hopes to find such a restaurant as this in Lima, it is slim pickings in this part of Northern Peru. This is a must stop!
