This suggested a few courses and a coffee for a fixed price.Waited for a while, and all courses were served on one small plate. The salad course in a minuscule dish, a all helping of rice, next too the promised chicken. So really, what's offered as several courses is just a small plate of food and a coffee!"Want desert the waitress" asked? "If it were part of the menu, I guess it would have been on the plate with the rest of it", I said.Such a shame, trust damaged, now I will not be coming back.
Had a table for eleven at short notice, food, service and overall experience very good, I would return.
It's totally not authentic. The spicy shrimp dish doesn't fit the Chinese description at all. It tastes really bad. The "Thai fried rice" is cooked with ketchup, which I ordered in order to avoid the peas carrots and ham in the cantonese fried rice. The spring roll is tough and chewy, the filling is terrible and the sauce is inedible. I've never had anything like this in Asia. I am from there and have been to many countries there. This restaurant would be laughed out of any town in any Asian country. Also the portions are small. And they charged me extra for my Carafe d'eau which magically went from water to a bottle of Evian. Which I didn't ask for. This is a restaurant for people who know absolutely nothing of authentic Chinese food.
We've eaten at dozens of chinese restaurants across three continents and Chez Yang was no doubt the MOST disappointing dining experience we've ever had.Chop Suey was very oily and the veggies used are not fresh. Black Bean Beef was terribly tough. Chicken and corn soup tasted like plain hot water mixed with a whole jar of black pepper. Sweet and Sour Pork was way too sour and eating the pork felt like chewing a piece of wood. In addition, none of the dishes had opulent quantities. The more absurd thing happened when we asked for the bill. One family member softly voiced our dissatisfaction by mentioning that the food "did not fit our taste". The waitress replied with disbelief, "but you finished the food"! (we did eat most of the food since we were very hungry after a whole day of touring) We ended up waiting 15 minutes for the bill, and when we asked the waitress again, she actually responded with a temper and pretended that we never asked! The setting was nice and we came in with high expectations, but everything else turned out to be a complete disappointment. Would strongly recommend to avoid.
We made a point to try this place even though our experience of Chinese cuisine in Paris was mixed. I'm glad we did! Last year we had tried the other Chinese restaurant near Aguilar du Midi station. It was ok for a change but Chez Yang was a genuinely good restaurant. The Peking Soup (Hot and Sour) was the best I've had in France and each dish was well composed and authentic and reasonable size. The restaurant was good value for Chamonix and our party of 8 (some children) was well fed for Euro160 (without wine or spirits). we always eat "family style" sharing a few dishes between us.I have spent considerable time in Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur) and I can be quite hard to please with Asian food and in my experience this quality in France usually costs much more. There are lots to choose from in Chamonix but if you are looking for a change of pace and a nice meal, get over to Chex Yang.
