The atmosphere was cozy yet elegant, and we were warmly greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to a perfect corner table. Our server, Ken, was very friendly and attentive. He recommended the stuffed white fish for me and the Dover special for my husband. We enjoyed some delicious scones and warm bread while we waited for our meals, which we both loved. I wish I could go back in time and experience that meal all over again. I had a lovely Riesling from their extensive wine selection, and we ended the evening with a baked peach crisp and ice cream. It was a perfect romantic date night, and we can't wait to return!
We can't believe we didn't know about this place before! It has been around since 1936 and we have visited Charlevoix many times. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful Victorian home with multiple dining areas spread out in various rooms. It's hidden away, so you have to know where to look. We didn't have a reservation on a weeknight in October, but we were able to get a table. Both my husband and I ordered the Broiled White Fish, which was absolutely delicious. I couldn't stop raving about it! The vegetable that came with the dish was broccoli, but I have trouble digesting it. When I asked for a substitute, the waiter initially suggested cauliflower, which is also difficult for me. I ended up requesting a salad instead, but was told there would be an extra charge. However, the waiter later came back and offered me beans at no extra cost, which I happily accepted. I also enjoyed a Brandy Alexander, which was fantastic. The restaurant has an extensive wine list and a good selection of beers. We definitely plan on returning in the future!
Excellent meal. Everything from appetizer to dessert was good. Duck was so tender you could have ate it without teeth.
We chose Grey Gables to celebrate a milestone birthday with our family. Out of several locations contacted in the area, they were the only one willing to accept a reservation for our party of 16 adults and kids. The entire experience was exceptional. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were seated together at one table and our server was attentive. The drinks, appetizers, and main dishes were all delicious. Most importantly, there were plenty of options for entrees for kids, teenagers, and adults. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. One piece of advice: while parking is free, it is on the street in a residential neighborhood, so be sure to allow extra time to find a spot during peak dining hours.
The service was great, as for the food, it came pretty fast and my family was impressed by our appetizers, however we were all slightly disappointed with the entrees. The desserts on the other hand were very extravagant and delicious.
