Based on the restaurant owner’s response, this is not a place that takes constructive criticism well and I do not expect the food to improve. We paid our bill and were respectful it’s not our fault that half of the dishes did not meet our expectations, I simply left an honest review. A few caveats to their rely: the portions are quite small (e.g., 4 oz of soup), there are no other restaurants nearby, we had been on the road for 4 hours so we were very hungry, the food was very expensive so we felt obligated to finish what we could (we actually left all of the fries because they were so rubbery) as I mentioned, the salad and calamari were good so we finished those. I would not leave a negative review if it were not warranted and the owner’s reply is quite disrespectful. Most of the food was not very good yet very expensive. The highlights were the salad and calamari. The clam chowder and steak frites were way below average.
I really like Backyard Bistro; however, I was disappointed with the food quality last night. We ordered two pizzas for takeout that were burned to the point they were almost inedible. The restaurant was busy and at capacity, but the kitchen should have never sent them out.
Lovely little place in Charlotte. We're visitors to the area and were happy to find a place open on a Tuesday night. We did not have a reservation and they accommodated us, and the server was very friendly. We ordered the nachos, chicken sandwich, and pulled pork mac and cheese with a few beers. Great flavors and generous portions. Would recommend, we enjoyed it.
Gotta say Backyard Bistro is going on the list of go to restaurants between Middlebury and Burlington. Just got home from a really quality meal. Calamari was flavorful with a kick, and the pulled pork mac and cheese is enough for 2 ppl to share as an entre. Looking forward to sitting at the great big bar next time with the fantastic stone bar top. Laid back atmosphere where you can dress up or down and it's all good. Outdoor area in the summer months is very cozy and therea even space for kids to run around in the grass behind the covered patio with lawn games.
Was not impressed with this restaurant. The lobster roll was good, but not spectacular. The Bolognese had no flavor, seemed like the only sauce was the grease from the meat. The dishes were very small and we both easily cleaned our plates and were still hungry. I think everyone is just excited to finally have a restaurant in Charlotte, but not worth the cost. We won’t be back.
