It's an average grocery store, similar to a co-op, with a small selection of international items. I noticed a good number of British imports, some common Asian foods, and a few Middle Eastern products. However, there wasn't much representation from regions like Africa or Eastern Europe. The variety they offered was quite limited. I had hoped to find items like cassava, Okinawan sweet potatoes, goat meat, beef heart, a wider range of Hispanic foods, and more kefir options that aren't available at my usual local store.
This establishment isn't aimed at the average consumer, as evidenced by the absence of EBT payment options and the steep prices. Are you prepared to spend $3.50 for a small container of sour cream? If so, this is the place for you. How about $20 per pound for steak? You’ll find that here, too. This store caters to left-leaning academics and yuppies who seem willing to pay excessive amounts for the sake of social status—purchasing obscure craft sodas and 'organic' products while subtly distancing themselves from those with lower incomes.
Foods of All Nations offers a fantastic selection, particularly when it comes to coffee and tea. Whenever I'm in the mood to create something unique, I can always count on finding the necessary ingredients there. On one occasion, while purchasing some bulk tea (the Darjeeling is absolutely delicious), I accidentally spilled a large amount on the floor. We ended up with two full paper bags of bulk tea, and when I explained it to the cashier, she kindly said it was perfectly fine if we didn’t want to buy both bags, which we eventually decided against.
I was patiently waiting as a lovely older woman entered the store in front of me. She was walking slowly and chatting with what I assumed was her caretaker. They paused right in the doorway for her to say something, and the caretaker gently reminded her that there was someone behind them. I chimed in and said, "Oh, take your time, that's perfectly fine with me." Then the caretaker mentioned that this wonderful lady is about to turn 103! I exclaimed, "103! May I..."
