It’s also an excellent educational opportunity for children, as they can see the boats arriving with their daily catch! Make sure to add this spot to your Chatham to-do list.
In the summer, this place quickly becomes busy. The parking lot is definitely too small for its popularity, which is why we prefer to visit during the off-season. If you can’t wait for quieter times, keep in mind that this establishment has roots in the fishing and seafood industry, not as a tourist attraction. Nonetheless, you’ll find tourists parking and clean facilities, with a seafood counter offering fresh lobster rolls and more, straight from the boat. There’s also a viewing deck where you can watch the fresh catch being unloaded. Just be prepared to share the view with seabirds and harbor seals, who are quite lazy and unbothered by the human presence. The seals come right up to the boats looking for scraps, and the gulls will even scavenge some leftovers yourself. Don't be surprised if you catch a glimpse of the industrial side of things, with dead seafood being unloaded onto conveyors and into freezers—it’s part of the experience!
The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the food is excellent. My friend and I shared the fish and chips, and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the fries were just right. They take your cell number and send you a text when your food is ready, so we took the opportunity to explore the nearby boats and seals. Some of the seals swam right up to the pier and were very playful. It's a fantastic stop if you're in the area!
Parking is based on happiness and the rooms are slim. But once parked it is free to go down some fresh boiled seafood, climb the stairs or take the strange elevator to the view to get amazing photos, see a ton of seals and watch the famous fish dumping. This is a fantastic stop, whether you kill 10 minutes or an hour and half. It should be seen at least once if you haven't been there yet.
The freshest fried clams I've ever had! Melt in your mouth! You order and can sit outside at a picnic table or take home. Parking is tough but we'll worth the trouble Good basic variety of seafood. Nice view! Will return!
