The tofu in the curry had a very strong oil taste which was unappetizing, I haven't experienced that in other Thai restaurants. Also, we got takeout and the amount of actual liquid in the curry was significantly less than other Thai takeout places.
I've been here quite a few times. The Thai food is delicious and the service is friendly and excellent. Everything I have had here has been great. They also provide the heat if you want it. Real Thai heat. I tried the Wild Boar entree which I heartily recommend. They warned me that it was truly 5 star spicy. No lie, while flavorful and well cooked this was a thermonuclear spice assault, which I loved. The soups have all been excellent as well as the appetizers. My wife had a chicken with green curry which she loved. The rice and noodles dishes are all great. Parking is easy as they're are lots and street parking nearby. BYO which is always nice. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. Super nice people who deserve your patronage.
Excellent heat in the dishes marked with a chile pepper on the menu! We enjoyed friendly service and astonishingly reasonable prices considering it's Thai food and in Chatham, a Pad Thai at dinner is only $13. Thai Passion is a small place right on Main St, intimate is the right word. BYO. On this quiet night we started with a Tom Yum soup, perfect balance of sour and spicy with a couple of shrimp and many fresh mushrooms, excellent, $6. Also tried the fried dumplings, little lumps of chicken in perfectly browned shells, only the sweet plum dipping sauce saved it from being totally bland, skip it at $8. My spicy seafood fried came with squid rings and shrimp, deeply browned quite properly spicy rice, excellent at $13! And I didn't even ask for extra heat, just standard. My dining companions went for Pad Thai, traditionally mild with a blend of sweet and sour, the ground peanuts and fresh lime were perfect. Also an order of Se Ew (basically drunken noodles without the heat), I really liked the Chinese broccoli leaves in that, $13 for the shrimp version. As dessert we tried (after a long wait) the special apple fritters, three rings battered fried, served in a tiny cast-iron pan and doused table side in a scrumptious vanilla sauce, yummy! Vegetarian rating: 4 stars for the 6 entrees above and beyond all the veg appetizers and salads, you can go mixed veg, chili tofu or maybe you're brave enough for the mock duck. This is quite easily the best taste-price balance I've found for Thai food in the Morristown, Madison, Chatham area.
Pad Thai is average at best. This is the third time I've ordered and they have blatantly ignored the only request I've made. I know it's a simple request but it completely changes the taste of the meal 1st time I said please give me lime instead of lemon...got 1 skimpy piece of lemon 2nd time I said please give lime instead lemon, explained I'm pregnant with twins and really craved lime and they gave me two pieces of freaking lemon Today I sent the request in the picture below and legit got nothing at all.... Will not order from here again. Would not suggest giving them a try either. There are plenty of other places with better service. If I could drive I would have taken that Pad Thai and returned it, but alas I am 9 months pregnant and could not do so
Yay. Back to consistently great food. We have been here twice since the last review, and both times the food was excellent and service amazing! !! Tried the lunch special on Friday. Great deal at $8-10 or so for salad and entree. Didn't think that the portion was that much smaller either.
