When I make reservations, I ask for Eggplant Parmesan, if they don't have Eggplant on hand, they'll message the Chef and get him to pick some up.Their homemade Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad Dressing is the best! My go to Restaurant for sure!
The food was flavourful, but did not match the description on the menu.I was extremely disappointed with the Shrimp Garlicky on the appetizer menu. From past dining experiences, I was expecting large tiger shrimp. The ones served at Casabella were no bigger than the regular frozen ones that are available at your local grocery store. I could fit 2 on a tablespoon. The total appetizer contained only 5 shrimp, and were served on a plate smaller that a tea saucer.
The restaurant was not busy we had great server. Food was good, the part that I was disappointed my husband brought cake and they charge for cutting the cake,if we new that I would cut my cake,I'm not being mean but I had my birthday there 2 years ago and there was no changes.
Casabella is located on the Thames river in Chatham. The front part is an older house and the back part is a newer addition (this is the part with the river views). Naturally most people would want a river view although there is lots of seating in the older part of the restaurant. We were fortunate enough to get a river view. Service was very good even though the table cloth could have been cleaner and there was a chip in one of our glasses. Salads were very good with fresh ingredients although the variety of ingredients in the house salad were minimal. One entrée we had was the beef medallions. Mini potatoes were way too hot and I almost scalded the upper part of my mouth. Good thing a glass of water was close by. They were also a bit on the dry side. Beef was OK but a bit fatty. Veggies were very good. The other entrée was the shrimp and perch. Perch was a bit overcooked, so a bit dry. We had cheesecake for dessert which was very good. Wine menu is adequate and offers some reasonable choices at good prices. So all in all a good meal with some good parts and not so good parts. We would likely go again and try different menu items to see if we just made some unfortunate choices or if the food preparation simply needs to improve.
The location on the lake is lovely. There were Canadian geese floating along the water, gorgeous trees and flowers and well kept shrubbery. We sat right at the window, thus could enjoy the view. The food was good and wine plentiful. They had a kid's menu that our children liked (standards like chicken fingers and pasta). Dessert was also great.
