The Period Tearooms caught our attention and turned out to be a charming little place. It is filled with antiques and interesting little items (watch out for elbows and handbags!). I had delicious Carrot and Coriander Soup with fresh rolls, while my husband had a bacon sandwich. The service was friendly and quick. The inside is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers due to limited space and potential hazards for little ones. However, there is outdoor seating and a quaint garden shed set up like the main area. The toilets are located across the yard. Would I recommend it? Absolutely - I want more of that soup and to try the rest of the menu! Will I return? Without a doubt.
My group of 4 had a delicious lunch at this restaurant. We received generous portions of sandwiches for our money. The lunch staff were fantastic, but when we returned at 4:30pm for cake, we were informed that they had just closed. We mentioned that their menu stated a closing time of 5pm, but the girl at the counter insisted that they stopped serving at 4:30pm, although we did not see this information anywhere. It was disappointing that they turned us away so abruptly, especially when there were still customers in the cafe at the time. A bit more flexibility in their closing time policy could have resulted in another sale. It's a shame, as we enjoyed our lunch, but this experience has made me hesitant to return.
This tea room has a very welcoming atmosphere with its unique character and antique furnishings. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent with generous portions. The highlight, however, is the cakes. We tried the custard cream, coffee and walnut, and raspberry and white chocolate cakes and found them all to be delicious and beautifully presented. The broccoli and stilton soup was also very tasty, and the tea was served in charming china pots and cups. We can't wait to return and try more of their wonderful cakes!
