The outside Rum Garden was so fun and the live music, fire pits and addarondack chairs made it a cozy venue. For breakfast you get a coupon for a coffee and breakfast sandwich at the super cute shop across the street. They are located perfectly on the main street and a stone's throw from nearly everything you'd want to do there. I highly recommend you stay at The Inn at the Canal. You'll be glad you did!
Lovely location, hotel was nice with a couple of issues. This is a old charming hotel in need of some maintenance. Shower head was working poorly, no hot water the first morning (it was taken care of when owner notified). Lovely bathtub but needs replaced. If you are looking for charming Bed and Bar this is a nice place. For breakfast, the hotel has an arrangement with cute cafe across the street. Free breakfast sandwich and coffee. I would stay here again.
Need to continue to give house TLC. A welcome/informational binder on the Inn/room would be recommended. Nearby activities: Location makes it easy to visit entire town walking. Rooms: 2 Service: 3 Location: 5
We had our first B B experience last week at The Inn at the Canal in Chesapeake City. I don 't think we 'll ever use a hotel or motel when traveling again! We went to check out Chesapeake city and celebrate my birthday, as well as our 35th Anniversary. We were greeted by Sarah, who we found delightful! We opened the door to Cara Cove, and were greeted by a parcel of homemade chocolate chip cookies and information about how to go about our stay at the Inn. The room was incredibly comfy and welcoming. The downstairs bar was the perfect place to wind down the day after a delicious dinner up the street. We were served by owner, Ed, who filled us in on how the place began. He also introduced us to the wonderful painkiller the man can mix a mean drink! We spent hours on the front porch in the rocking chairs and on the glider. Perfect place to watch the happenings on the main drag. We highly recommend The Inn at the Canal to anyone who wants to spend time with friendly people in a comfortable, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. T.C., Oxford Pa. Nearby activities: The marina was yards away, as was the canal, many restaurants, a brewpub, maps of walking tours, bikes for rent, and cruises of the marina and canal. The best activity we found, was hanging out on the porch, rocking, and enjoying each other 's company. Safety: The front door was locked as was our room. Guests had keys to the front door and of course their rooms. We felt very safe. Smoke detectors and alarms were visible throughout. I felt quite safe walking the area after dark, and police cars were noted patrolling the area. Walkability: We didn 't need our car to enjoy several restaurants right down the street and around the corner. We explored the marina beside the C D canal, and watched a huge vessel guided by a tugboat pass up the canal. There was a small, well kept park with plenty of seating to enjoy the last day of Summer just yards from the Inn. There were boat tours available and several quaint shops. We strolled the streets and enjoyed checking out the Victorian homes most from the 1800s. Many had signs with the names of the homes and date of origination. Every person we passed had a smile and a greeting. So refreshing! Food drinks: We spent time outside in the gardens of the Rumur lounge in Adarondike chairs by a fire listening to live music, and snacking on tasty bar snacks. Great relaxed atmosphere with Ed hosting and tending bar. I had a wonderful painkiller drink, and my husband enjoyed a beer.
We have stayed at the inn several times in the past and enjoyed the hospitality and especially the breakfast. We are not drinkers, so the bar did not interest us. It did seem like the new ownership was more interested in serving drinks than in serving the guests. Sorry we won’t be back. Rooms: 2 Service: 1 Location: 5
