The lunch was well priced with generous portions, I had vegetable soup with a large fresh Vienna roll, my husband had the southern fried chicken burger which came with nice crispy chips and homemade coleslaw. A massive improvement from pre-closure food and service, we will be visiting again.
We ordered Deliveroo as a treat as working from home such a lot. £3.20 for a turkey sandwich (on a white bread roll). So so disappointed when it arrived and I took it out of its paper bag to find one wafer thin slice of preformed turkey on the barm. What a total rip off. They also claim free delivery and then charge £2.50. I will never use them again.
I stopped by for lunch after my husband mentioned he used to enjoy fantastic sandwiches at this restaurant when he worked in Macc a few years ago. Unfortunately, it seems that the quality has declined over time. The first problem arose when I ordered sparkling water and found the glass to be dirty, so I opted to use the bottle instead. Upon opening the water, I discovered it was two months past its expiration date. When I brought this to the waitress's attention, she informed me that it was the last one and could not offer a replacement. The food took a long time to arrive, despite the place being nearly empty. My sandwich arrived with tomato, despite my request for it to be without. The waitress simply pointed to the chalkboard listing the ingredients instead of rectifying the mistake. The sandwich itself was disappointing, with cheap white bread, bland turkey, suspicious mayonnaise, and unwanted tomato. The side salad was mostly iceberg lettuce and tomato, which I avoided due to the tomato contamination. The deli counter had flies inside, and the staff handled food barehanded. Overall, the restaurant seemed unclean and lacking in quality. The staff were polite, but the service was subpar. Despite wanting to attribute these issues to the pandemic, it seems they have been ongoing for some time according to previous reviews. The restaurant may look appealing from the outside, but it falls short in terms of quality and cleanliness.
Visited today 13th August.. took well over 15mins to be served when I was the only customer in the store.. asked what breakfast options they had and got a response I would expect from a hungover student not a Middle Aged women that she is.. whilst waiting for food to be prepared noticed in the deli meats/pies section there was an alarming number of insects and fly’s all over the food ..to which I made note of to the lady serving me and again her response was of someone that didn’t care or want to take responsibility.. then once home and opened the bacon and egg bap I had ordered I wish I hadn’t bothered at all it look like what I can only describe as what looks like what would be left of a month old but of road kill. THINGS NEED SORTING AND FAST !!!!
The food was delicious, but the restaurant needs some improvements. If these issues are not addressed, I will not be returning. Some concerns I noticed include: staff using bare hands to handle food without gloves, dirty salt and pepper shakers in need of a wash and refill (salt was damp), rusty sugar pots, sugars haphazardly pushed into buckets, no displayed hygiene rating, inadequate napkins, and a dirty floor with loose boards.
